Seeking New Pediatrician - Carmel, IN

C.N. asks from Carmel, IN

I'm looking to change pediatricians and wanted recommendations from other moms in my area. I live in Westfield, IN, but am interested in all nearby cities like Carmel, Noblesville, and maybe even Fishers. I want an office/doctor that makes you feel welcomed, doesn't rush you and really interacts with the child. It takes a little time for my 4 yr old to warm up to people so I need a very kid friendly office, including nurses. I would accept recommendations for both male and female docs. THANKS!

What can I do next?

I would absolutely recommend, Hazel Dell Pediatrics...Dr. Roy Harper, is wonderful. My daughter is now 13 (soon to be 14) and he has been her doctor since birth. His partners in the office are great too. Their phone number is ###-###-####.

I have a 6 mo old and live in Lebanon. We go to Dr. Tricia Hettmansberger. She is wonderful! Very personable, doesn't rush you, doesn't make you feel stupid if you ask some basic questions and has a wonderful bedside manner with the little ones. She has 3 or 4 kids of her own and is supportive of your individual parenting style whether it be homeopathic remedies or typical scientific treatment. My family tends to be "more natural" when it comes to medicine, breastfeeding, etc. and she is totally cool with it. I HIGHLY recommend her and it would only be about a 15 min drive for you. Good luck.

We use Northpoint Peds and they are wonderful. They have three offices so it is not difficult getting an appt. I am a first time mom and they have always been very good at answering questions and never making me feel like a stooge for asking them!

Hi C.. I live in Noblesville and my kids are 13 and just about 9. We don't go to the doctor often, but for the few times we have. We went to Noblesville Pediatrics (which is close to Westfiled I think- I just moved here a year ago). WE normally see a nurse practitioner because it origionally worked out that way and I have always felt they are more personable. Her name is Marra ( I think. Like I said we hardly ever go). The phone # is ###-###-#### I hope it works out.

My kids have gone to the same pediatrician's office since they were born and I have been really happy. Their doctor is Dr. James Cumming and I think his practice name is Meridian Pediatrics. They are right off Meridian, just north of 116th Street. They are always very friendly and Dr. Cumming's nurse who gives the shots etc. has been there the whole time which I think says alot about the work environment.

We have been going to Northpoint Pediatrics for over 10 years and have been more than pleased. The wait time is always minimal (they are strict on appointment times - which is why the wait is minimal). I never have issues with getting in when needed and they even have a Saturday morning clinic available. They have always been patient and easy-going with the kids.

I highly recommend Paul Jarvis. He's at Greyhound & US31. We've been going there since we moved to IN 4 years ago. My son HATED doctors when we moved so I very apprehensive about that first doctor visit. My son was great. He was laughing within minutes of Jarvis walking in. He's great with kids but knows his medicine, too. Our girls have been seeing him since the day they were born, too.

Everyone in the office is nice. I've never felt rushed. We see the doctor everytime, not a nurse. The staff got to know us and remembers things about our personal lives (ie, son plays hockey, oldest daughter loves to dance, etc). As for the doctor interacting with the child, I was really suprised that first visit. Jarvis directed his questions to my then-2-year-old son -- not to me! I think it's really good that now that my son is almost-6, he and the doctor have a real conversation during the visit and my son answers almost all the questions. Which makes sense because he can tell where it hurts better than I can.

We like Northpoint Peds. They have been supportive of my decisions about vaccines and gave us choices when my boys were sick about how to proceed instead of just telling me what I had to do. We see Dr. Nanagas and REALLY like his CNP.

My family Dr is Billie A. Gosnell. He became my Dr at the age of 12(when I 1st moved to IN)and is for all 3 of my kids. He is the best! There has never been any person or service for anything that I would recommend more! I truly believe this man is an angel sent from above. I will give several case examples. I had my first child at the age of 20. It was an unplanned pregnancy, and I had participated in things that I am not proud to have. I freaked out! It was nothing that horrible(alchohol, cigs,) but he talked me through it and I had a very healthy boy. Because I did not have insurance at the time, he referred me to the clinic through St. V's that I continued to see until after he was born. My son had issues drinking formula with iron. I changed to low iron without checking w/ the dr first, and they yelled at me. I went to Dr. Gosnell for advice, and he said "of course you should have." I have continued to see him since, even through times of not having insurance. He is very in tune with the fact that each child is different, and each case is different. He leads you to be more in tune with your own body and each one of your kids. My daughter is still bouncing off of the wall, even with a temp of 102. She had a urinary tract infection one weekend(I already knew because of her symptoms), I had to take her to the ER because the Dr was closed. After waiting in an empty room waiting to be seen for over an hour, and having her pee in a cup(at 3!!)then sent us home saying she was perfectly fine. They never even tested the urine. The cup was where I left it on the table in the same room when we left. She had been bouncing off the walls the whole time we were there. I had to take her to Dr G the very next day(Monday)in horrible pain with her screaming each time she peed. She did have a UTI. She is 7 now, and I still refuse to pay the ER bill. Dr Gosnell has many times "sent me out the back door" when I did not have insurance or given me samples of prescriptions. He talks to my kids about whatever it is they are there for. My kids actually look forward to going to see him! After not having to go for a long time, my kids will actually ask if they can be sick to go see him. He truly is the best! He is part of St. Vincent primary care physicians at 86th and Harcourt Road. I know it is a little farther(I live between Westfield and Sheridan), but it is so worth it. The office staff hasn't always been so great, but the nurses that work for him are just as great as him. They remember my kids each and every time, and the kids are very drawn to them. (Even after the shots!)His phone is ###-###-####

We use North Star and love it. The doctors are friendly and someone is there during office hours to answer the phones so you don't have to talk to an automated system! There are off around 96th and 69.

Jeffrey Walker at American Health Network in Fishers is a good one. Not a specific "pediatrician" but he has been good with the kids and I like being able to go to one doctor for the whole family. He isn't our doc (ours isn't accepting new patients), but we have seen him when we really needed to get in and ours was booked or not in that day. I've been very happy with the office and staff - been going there for about 7 years. Started before we had our first child. They also have nurse practitioners and Saturday morning appointments. Good Luck!

I go to Jennifer Jones in Zionsville. I have been really empressed with her care. They have even called me at home to check on my child. There are 2 nurses there who I really like and the staff is very friendly. I have been taking my 2 1/2 year old since he was born and now I am taking my 6 month old. Dr Wheeler is also in her office and I think she is great also. They all work together great as a team. I just see so much more compassion from female MD for children. Good Luck I also live in Westfield. It is about a 20-25 min drive

I absolutely adore Dr. Jennifer Hill-Birk at Geist Family Medicine and Pediatrics. She treats your child like one of her own and remembers things about them. My children (I have 4) aren't just another face in the crowd to her. She remembers things that happened over a year ago. We switched to Dr. Hill-Birk almost 18 months ago when my pediatrician in Carmel refused to acknowledge that there was something wrong with my youngest daughter. I took her to Dr. Hill-Birk (just chose her out of our directory of providers for insurance) and she immediately acted on what was wrong and we had it fixed fairly quickly and she has been great ever since. That has been over a year now. I can't say enough AMAZING things about her!!! She is by St. Simon, here is a link to the practice

They also do any labwork/xrays on site which is nice.

Hope this helps.

I take both of my kids 2.5 and 2 months to Noblesville Pediatrics. I absolutely love all of the doctors. Dr. Chaten and Dr. Benjamin are my favorites. I can always get an appointment whenever I call (same day). Sometime they run a little late in the office, but I know it is because they spend as much time with your child as they need based upon the visit. I highly recommend them!!!!!!
