Seeking Midwife Information and Care (In North-Central NJ)

I just found out that I'm pregnant (only about 4 weeks gestational)! My intention is to seek Midwife care for my pregancy. I had a not-so-great experience seeing my usual OB-GYN with my first baby, and delivery was disappointing in some ways, too...so I'm hoping for something better this pregnancy.
This may seem like a stupid question, but does a midwife handle all aspects of prenatal care (ie: visits, perscribing prenatal vits., whatever else)? More so than needing to know what a midwife does exactly, I'd like to know if anyone can refer me to a good one. I live in Sparta, NJ (sussex county). I'm willing to drive a 15+ miles if I need to. I'm hoping to give birth at Saint Claires Hospital too. Last birth was at Newton Memorial.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions. I am almost certain I'll be using Hackettstown Midwives. I spoke with Roxy and Lisa (two of three midwives in the practice) and I have a HUGE sense of relief. They answered all of my questions, patiently. It's VERY apparent that they care and HEAR me when I voice my hopes for how I'd like to experience this pregnancy and labor. I'm really excited now. I just need to make sure insurance will cover everything. It should. Thanks again!

Congratulations! I had my baby a year and a half ago with the midwives at Avalon in Caldwell, NJ and it was a tremendous experience. They did in fact take care of all the prenatal visits, and even did some ultrasounds in the office, and my insurance covered it. I had my baby at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, no drugs, no episiotomy and was very satisfied with their care. I found them by doing a search of the internet. From what I know there are midwives that work out of St. Clares in Denville. Do the search or call the hospital. I'm sure they can give you more info. Good Luck!

I think that Women's Total Health in Newton still has midwives in the practice. It's a team of DR's & midwives in the office & you can choose who you want to deliver (dr or midwife). They are affiliated w/ Newton Memorial though. I had both my girls there & was very happy. Good luck to you!

Hi K.,

I go see a wonderful midwife team at Obstertrics and gynecology associates. I see Roxie, Cindy, and Lisa. I just adore them. I had 2 out of my 4 with them. And if I get pregant again I will go back to them. They are also featured on a Baby Story, I believe it is on Lifetime. They are located in Hackettstown. Their telephone number is ###-###-####. The only thing is they don't deliver out of St Clares, they deliver at Hackettstown. If you have any question please contact me.
