Has anyone used a group with midwives at Alexian Brothers? I am interested in finding a GREAT midwife in the northwest suburbs. Any advice on Alexian Brothers midwives and the Alexian Brothers hospital birthing experience would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I second Nicole Quigley. She was my nurse midwife when I had my daughter and she is FANTASTIC. I too love the entire office staff.
Nicole always had time to answer questions, calm fears, or just listen when I needed it. She is the best.
I had a pretty good experience at Alexian Brother itself. Being a first time Mom, I think they really took extra time to educate me on caring for my daughter.
Good luck!

I go to Advanced Women's Health Care Center at Alexian Brothers. I see CNM Nicole Quiqley. I found her by posting on this very site and many, many women referred me to this practice. I have found them to be absolutely amazing. I referred 2 people and both are equally impressed and happy! I highly recommend Nicole. She spends an ample amount of time with you and you never feel rushed or hurried. Being a CNM gives her the luxury to give quality time to her patients.

Jill Edwards, CNM is FANTASTIC!!! I absolutely love her! She was my midwife with my first pregnancy and helped deliver my daughter (I had to have a C-section due to DD heart rate dropping - short cord wrapped around her neck twice). Even after the C-section, knowing what my birth plan was, she made sure that the first thing I saw when I awoke from the C-section was my beautiful daughter's face! I got to hold her and started to nurse shortly after. She is my midwife for this, our second, pregnancy. She will help you follow your birth plan, is extremely caring and actually listens to what YOU want. I wouldn't trust my birth and my baby to anyone else! She is located in the office with Dr Mruz (who is also fantastic) based out of Alexian Brothers. Their phone # is ###-###-####.

Hi I have used and so have a few of the moms in my circle a Woman's Place on Rockwell in Chicago and they do service the NW burbs if you are close enough and it is a full integrative center. I live in Park Ridge. My experience thru them was absolutely wonderful even though things did not go as planned. Jen and jewel were absolutely fantastic!

I think the correct website is www.awomansplacechicago.com.

I gave birth to all three of my kids at Alexian Bros through Midwest Midwifery which was run by Therese Doyle. Midwest Midwifery has since closed, but Therese is still practicing with Midwest OB/GYN & Midwifery based out of the offices at Alexian Bros. Therese is a fantastic, supportive midwife. As far as giving birth at Alexian Bros, in my experiences there, the nurses were very supportive of my wishes and were very respectful of the midwives. The unit has been remodeled recently and is very clean.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND birthing at Alexian Brothers. When I had my daughter there (using West Suburban Midwives), I found the regular nurses to be somewhat old school. In fact, my labor stalled out, and when I asked to get up and move around, I was told I couldn't, that I needed to stay hooked up to the monitor. I know my labor would have gone much more quickly if I didn't have to deal with all their regulations. In short, I found myself doing purple pushing when I was trying to labor naturally. It was a bad situation. On top of it, it isn't a very nice hospital. No CD players, etc. Also, my midwife told me that not all of the regular nurses are good with the "birthing tub," i.e. it's inconvenient to them and they don't support using it.

I highly recommend using the midwives through West Suburban or the ones at Rush Copley. You can even do a water birth at those hospitals, and they have less stringent monitor requirements.

You could also do a home birth (what I'm doing this time). There is one that works out of Libertyville that people seem to like a lot.

But I'd seriously avoid Alexian.

Midwife Jill Edwards

She works in the same office with Dr. Richard Mruz.
They are located in the hospital.
I just had my 3rd baby 5 weeks ago and was seeing her all through my pregnancy. I delivered the first two kids with different doctors and have to tell you that Jill was my favourite and the nurses are great too.

She is very nice and I feel like she really knows me and was treating me more then just like another number
(like the other doctors did). After a few visits, she didn't have to look in my chart to know who I was and what my condition was.
They do everything in their office, blood work, glucose, ultrasound and other testing.

She didn't deliver my baby, I saw her for all my visits and she was on vacation when I delivered ( I delivered early), so Dr. Mruz delivered my baby, but he was awesome! I really wanted her to be there since I was so used to her, but I have to admit that Dr. Mruz was really amazing and I'm glad he was there. He has a great sense of humor and made the whole thing a lot easier....

As far as the birthing experience at Alexian, it was great. I delivered 2 out of my 3 kids there. I really like that hospital.

Good luck,
Yvette
