Seeking Gift Ideas for Third Baby
Our good friends recently had their third baby (they already have one boy and one girl and the third is a boy). We want to give them and/or him something special. I'm starting to panic because he was born almost two months ago and we haven't gifted anything yet (except after they got home from the hospital I brought over breakfast foods and snacks for the family). Racking my brain for the kid the has everything - albeit hand-me-downs - but everything from clothes to toys. Any ideas?

I loved many of your ideas! I appreciate you all taking the time to respond. I think I'm going to go with a gift card to a photography studio so that they can get a new family picture. Thanks again to everyone!

I second the personalized book or the handprint. I had all of my children's handprints done at the same time (1week) and it's so fun comparing them even to this day. Somehow, a personalized gift for the third child just makes it even more special (they seem to get all the hand-me-downs).

My thought is a giftcard to a photo studio for a new family portrait. The spa/babysitting is a great idea too.

Hello, Can you sew? I like to make a quilt for each new baby. It is then personally their. Also, you can go to places which embroider or etch names onto gifts (cups, jewelry, blankets, quilts). These can be a little pricey, but very nice.

Hi W.,
Wow! Congratulations on your Survivor status!
Recently I was in your same position---stumped on what to give a mom who was having her 4th boy. So I went to purchase a Sears Smiles Savers card for portraits, then coupled it with a cute photo album, Carter's photo organization box, a piture frame in the nursery's theme, and a grandma picture brag book. It was the hit of the party and she has told me several times how cool the portrait savings card has been for her. Just anonther idea in addition to what you have already been given. Good luck

Hi W.,
www.iseeme.com has beautiful personalized books and other items for children. It is something the child can treasure forever and makes for a very unique gift. I suggest the book My Very Own Name which has animals that start with the same letter bring the letter page by page as it spells out the child's name. As the child grows, it helps him spell his name too. Meals, free babysitting~for all three kids, a helping hand in the house, laundry service, or a Starbucks gift card. I am the mother of three, and the third one is a huge adjustments, this was when all the plants in my house died, meals were mostly burnt to the pan and dinner was done with the smoke alarm went off LOL. I had everything I need for my third son since he was born only 14 months after my first son, our oldest is our only girl. And it just seemed to me that the first several months were the hardest to keep a schedule of any sort, and learn how to adjust to the new chaos in your house and some things suffered for that. So those are the kinds of things that I remember most; the friends that brought over meals with paper plates, or offered to water the drooping plants, fold a load of laundry while we visited over caffine products =} The little things that seem HUGE at the time, but really only take a few mins. Good luck with your friend and CONGRATS with being a survivor.

Something personalized that commemorates his birth is a perfect gift. CVS has little birth pillows where you can put in his name, DOB, etc. Or get one of those little kits that have plaster of paris to make his handprint in and a special box to save it. If you sew or embroider make something with his name on it. Another great gift is a gift certificate for a photo with a darling frame for the photo that is taken.

DIAPERS! I know it doesn't sound "special" but what parent wouldn't be grateful for diapers? (Unless he's in cloth)?
Or, you could focus on the parents and give them a gift card for a place where they like to eat (or a few smaller gift cards for a few different places). Three kids and one a 2 month old? I bet anything that mom doesn't want to cook every night! The guys from my work all pitched in and did that for hubby and I and I will never forget it. I thought it was very thoughtful.
