Hi Moms. My cousin had a baby boy yesterday - first time parents - and i wanted to send a gift to the new baby but also send a fun gag type gift for the new parents. Something along the lines of a "Survival" gift. For instance - a bag of coffee for the morning jolt after being up all night with a new born, advil for headaches after no sleep....etc. ANY IDEAS would be great! I want it to be fun and entertaining. Thanks in advance!

My 12 year old became a big sister in June when my daughter was born. Yes, 12 years between children! A friend of mine at church gave her a "survival kit". She also has a 12 year old daughter and a son that is 2. This kit included earplugs and noseclips. Earplugs for sleeping at night and noseclips for changing diapers. Not sure that parents need earplugs though, lol! Good luck, it's a great idea.

Haha, one thing that has saved my sanity a couple of times...those gun ear muff things that people wear at the firing range! Or some earplugs. Good idea, new parents always can use a little humor!

how about a tee-tee teepee? Those seemed like such a waste of money to me; a bit comical too. But, you know, I actually wished for one a few times when my son was a new born!
My husband didn't do night duty since I was nursing it just didn't seem practical for us to both get up but maybe one of those arm pokers that is supposed to be a back scratcher - you could put a little tag on it that says something like "Your turn" or "tag! you're it!"
maybe some fake birth control (like smarties candy - if they wouldn't be offended by this)
ear plugs
Red Bull or other energy drink

off the top of my head ...

I made a daddy survival kit. I put them in a camo bag and put goggles, nose plugs, I actually put the small bottles of alcohol, ear plugs and I think plastic gloves.
My husband loved it!!!

A drink mixer to use to shake up formula (or whatever) and saki cups. The saki cups are GREAT for baby food and useful afterwards. I use these cups for a portion size of ice cream too.

If you want something funny to add to the tool belt idea (all messy diaper related): big rubber gloves, clothespin for nose, safety goggles for eye protection, red biohazard bag, tongs for diaper removal.

One thing I received was a huge bag of pads...assuming she had a vaginal delivery. It was so embarrassing at the time, but I am so glad I did receive them, I had no idea how much they were needed.

K.,
This is a great idea! I never thought to do that. Ok I have a few suggestion, just 1 request...please respond back to mamasource with all that you give her and her reaction to all of the stuff.
St.Ives cucumber mellon eye cream-too reduce puffiness from lack of sleep, Anti aging cream, clothes pins for her nose when they baby's diaper is really 'ripe', condoms, no doze pills, Ginko-so her mind doesnt stop working on her because she doesnt get sleep, energy drink, feminine pads, midol, tape- so she can tape her eyes OPEN, m&m's-for her meals. Good luck and I hope they love it.
