I am searching for a new OB/GYN in the Westminster area and was curious if anyone had any experience with the doctors associated with Avista Hospital in Louisville. Does anyone have any recommendations in regard to these doctors or labor and delivery at this hospital? My husband and I are also trying to get pregnant so we want to find a good doctor and hospital that we can stick with for a while.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the feedback! There certainly is a lot to consider when choosing a good OB/GYN as well as hospital. I think I will try to go to the meet and greet so I can get a better feeling! I really appreciate all the feedback.

I went to Centennial Valley Womens Clinic in Avista and had them as my OBGYN for several years. The Dr I had during both of my children unfortunately passed away and since I am not having any more children go elsewhere now. I had both of my children in Avista and it was INCREDIBLE! I had my daughter in 01 before the new delivery addition was built and it was nice then. Then I had my son in 04'. It was so luxurious, wonderful (I MEAN WONDERFUL) nurses, staff, the food was great! I had a nice suite type room with my son and almost didn't want to leave, hee hee. They are great there, you can call the hospital and get a list of OBGYN's affliated with the hospital, but I highly recommend anyone to deliver there.
It is such a great place.

I definitely recommend any of the OBGYN's there. I see Heather Shannon that is a nurse practitioner at Boulder Medical Center in Avista hospital and everyone that I have met and seen there has been great!

I'm not familiar with Avista, but do have a great recommendation for OB/GYN in our area. Westside Women's Care is at 80th & Kipling in Arvada - not too far from Westminster. They also have an office at Exempla Lutheran. Their docs are great and they also have a fantastic team of Certified Nurse Midwives, which is a great way to go if you're planning on getting pregnant. The Midwives are able to spend more time with each patient throughout the pregnancy and during labor & delivery, too. Also, a doc is always in the hospital if an emergency were to arise.

Let me know if you have questions - I'm happy to help.

I just delivered a baby at Avista 3 months ago. I thought it was a great experience and was very happy there. My OB works out of Avista, Woman to Woman Healthcare. There are three drs there, all women. I saw Dr Bissell and really liked her. She was very patient, easy to talk too and really made sure I received the best care.

I love Caroline Wepman! She delivered my son, who is now 3 and I adored her. She rejoiced with me in my pregnancy and I had some difficulties in my pregnancy (everything turned out great!) but she wept with me when i wept. She has an amazing bedside manor, and is an excellent doctor. Only praises for her!!!
The food is fabulous at Avista, too! ;)

I used Avista hospital and loved it. They have beautiful birthing suites and great labor nurses, not to mention as my husband and I called it Baby University, great classes is what I mean. I used Woman to Woman Healthcare, my doc there was Molly Romary. She was feisty and very attentive. Just my style. The other docs are great too. I highly reccomend these docs and this hospital. Hope this helps. Oh yeah W to W HC is located in the hospital and they do meet and greet appointments for pregnant moms to see if you like them.
Bye Good Luck

My husband and I chose to deliver at Foothills in Boulder -- and we are using Dr. Tracy Jones and I am very impressed with her office. (I am due in March). However, when we were looking at hospitals and dr.'s we received multiple recommendations for Dr. Carole Christensen at Avista. We chose Foothills in Boulder because our first son was 6 weeks premature and Foothills has a room in NICU vs. Avista having a NICU common Nursery. The other thing we heard about Avista was that it had more interventions then Foothills, i.e., c-sections, episiotomy's etc...and we want to avoid that! Both Avista and Foothills have websites and I highly recommmend that you visit both online and the hospitals in person, and interview the doctors. If you are not pregnant yet, you have plenty of time to choose. We live in Louisville, and it is 8 minutes to Foothills Hospital. (Arapahoe and 48th). Hope this helps.

I have used Dr. Austin at Boulder Medical Center at Avista. I have been very pleased with the pre-natal care I have received from him during both my pregnancies. He was not on-call the night my son was delivered but his partner was wonderful. I highly recommend them.

I am a patient w/ Westside Women's Care. They have an office in Wheat Ridge and one in Arvada (80th and kipling). That may be further than you would like and I don't know if they are affiliated w/your hospital. They cared for me when I had my twins (almost 10 years ago!) and I still go there for my yearly check ups. I like the drs. very much, especially Dr. Tom Sweeney. Maybe they could give you a recommendation for your area, too. Good luck!

Avista is great! I was recommended there and had the opportunity to go and meet all the OB's there. Christensen is who I use but, oh darn for the life of me I cannot rememer his name. The Male Dr. delivered my daughter and let me tell you the delivery room was in total chaos then he walked in and the mood was calm and peaceful. I would give 1000 births because of the wonderful experience there. It was by far the easiest thing ever. Of course the happiest too! Enjoy your journey!

Hi,
I can offer my experience as a student nurse at Avista, and from what I saw during the 4 weeks I was there it seems to be a great facility, the nurses I worked with were terrific, and the docs I met were quite nice. There was a woman from Boulder (I forget her name) who had a very nice bedside manner, wish I could remember her name. But, again, the staff was very competent and quite compassionate.
I got the feeling that the majority of women birthing there go for the epidural, but I witnessed one birth completely natural and the staff was very supportive.
All of the moms I worked with post partum expressed feelings of being happy with their experience.
I haven't had a baby yet, but from my experience there I would feel comfortable having a baby there.
That's my bit as a student nurse..............I was there in September and they were very busy.
