I believe Tri-City Christian is recognized as a reputable school. It has been around for a long time, I have known many who have gone to school there (including my youngest brother) and my mom taught there for a few years. I don't care for the "school politics" but I think they are good on academics. Calvary Chapel of Vista has a good school - I prefer the "atmosphere" of the leadership there, but I don't know about the academics and how respected the school is from a college standpoint. My niece recently graduated from there and I think she may have had her pick of universities (but she is a genius, graduated at 16 and so on). The school could probably tell you about your child's chances of going on to certain universities after high school, if that is your concern.
I taught at Horizon Christian School in San Diego before I got married and had kids and I think that is, by far, the best school around, and very reputable. But it is a long drive. I wish I could send my kids there when they are of school age, but I don't think I could manage the drive everyday.
My sister has her kids enrolled at a charter school "Coastal Academy" in Oceanside. They do a homeschool arrangement where they are in school 2 days and at home 3 days. It is not a Christian school, but almost everyone who attends there is Christian, and I don't think my sister has had any issues with the curriculum, or she might be able to choose to leave things out. I don't know you if you have to homeschool or if your kids can go to school 5 days a week. I also have a good friend who teaches at their sister school in Escondido, and the school is as close as you can get to a private school without being private.
I hope this is helpful!

Hi B.!

I just moved to this area so I don't know of the schools, but I wanted to share something with you.

I have taught at private schools for my whole teaching career. There are two types of curriculum that I have used and I taught middle school. State of California Curriculum and ABEKA. DO NOT send him to a school that is ABEKA curriculum. He will be very behind. I kept in touch with a few of the parents that had students in my ABEKA based curriculum schools and they said that their children were behind and they would have been further behind if I hadn't taken it upon myself to ditch some of that ABEKA and bring in real life curriculum.
Look for a WASC accreditted school that uses state of California curriculum.

There is a really good Christian school on Melrose Drive in Vista at the corner of Copper and Melrose - very close to the 78. They have been there for years. My kids have gone there for summer school and I really love it.

I taught at St. Patrick's Catholic School in Carlsbad for five years before taking this year off to be a stay at home mom. It is a great school and community of people. My daughter will be starting there next fall. There are two eighth grade classes each with 20 students or less. Give them a ring if you are interested. ###-###-####.
