Okay. So finding a preschool that's *affordable (key word) and conveniently placed near my home has me pulling my HAIR out!! My family and I live in downtown St.Louis - the Heart of it. Right now I'm driving to Webster Groves to drop my daughter off at the sitter's and then heading back up North to Earth City for work. LOTS of driving 5 days a week. My daughter should start preschool in the next few months to a year and I have not clue on where to find a good preschool in my area or at least close to my area. Can anyone help? Anything would be appreciated.
Addison just turned 2 this past January (2008) so if I'm not mistaken she should be starting preschool this August if not January 2009.

What can I do next?

Hi M.. There are also a couple of preschool options in the Shaw neighborhood--where the Missouri Botanical Garden is located. St. Margaret's of Scotland is a Catholic institution with a Montassori-style preschool http://www.smos-school.org/, and there is also Cornerstone CenterForEarly Learning, ###-###-####, which has daycare and a preschool. I won't say they're inexpensive, though...

Good luck!

Preschool usually starts in the fall after the child turns three. This came as a suprise to me but registration for preschool is the beginning of Feb. Most daycares also provide preschool lessons during their day there but it is more of a daycare setting. The daycares can also be fairly expensive. A lot of churches provide reasonably priced preschools. Keep in mind though that these are only 2-3 half days a week. I hope this helps, I just signed my 3y/o up this past Feb. at Abiding Savior on Butler Hill in South County for $115/month. This is for 2 half days a week. Also keep in mind kids have to be potty trained to go to preschool but usually not to go to a daycare setting.

Hi M.. The Downtown Children's Center is wonderful. It is definitely on the expensive side but they do offer scholarships. I would also look in areas within a reasonable distance of downtown. There is a great daycare in Dogtown on Tamm, but the name escapes me right now. There is also a Kindercare on Hampton that I had a great experience with when it was still a Children's World. I'm sure there are plenty of care centers/preschools between downtown and your work in North County. Have you searched the Internet? Good luck.

M.,

Try The Sacred Heart Villa. It is located in the Hill neighborhood in the city of St. Louis. It is an excellent establishment.

My son attends New Hope Community Center Preschool in Hyde Park just off Hwy 70 & Salisbury. The phone number is ###-###-####. The school is currently in the process of gaining accreditation. My son will be 4 in May and has attended New Hope since he was about 18 months. I am extremely pleased with his progress, and the staff is wonderful. Good luck!

Check out the Soulard School (it has a preschool attached to it). It's fantastic, and very close to downtown. They charge sliding scale based on income. http://www.soulardschool.org/early/index.php

We used CEC ("Children's Enrichment Center"), located close to the AG Edwards complex. We were very happy there. Our daughter (now 7) and our son (now 5) were both proficient readers when they left for grade school. The tuition was reasonable, they teach a lot of cool things (one of the teachers was from Japan, so the kids all learned how to count in Japanese) and our kids were happy. I think the phone number is ###-###-####. Ann Hamilton is the owner and the principal is Margaret "Miss Margaret" Smith. We still send our son there for camps and holiday breaks.
