Sea World San Antonio Overnight - Trip Planning Tips?

Father Son overnighter, haven't been to Sea World San Antonio. Has anyone booked, and what did you find to be the best value? It looks like you can book a package through the park itself, but I'm not sure if that's better than bargain hunting for a good hotel price.

What worked best for you, value-wise?

Driving from Fort Worth, so perhaps a park day and a downtown day might be nice. Looking at the week of or week after Christmas.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would stay close to seaworld (Like less then 3 miles) that way they can go back to the hotel and recharge. I heard it is beautifully decorated for Christmas. It might be cold, it could rain. We've stayed with family previously but we have looked at the packages. I think it depends on the level of hotel you want. If your looking for just a bare basic hotel you can do better I think on your own. It's quick to price it out though because they only have a handful or less of partner hotels.

Seaworld is beautiful at the holidays. Since you will have transportation, I would stay within a 20 mile radius of the park. You can check online for deals for tickets and parking passes. There is really no need to stay close to SeaWorld and pay the inflated priced unless you are going there for multiple days.

Have lots of fun!!

Do some comparisons in line. Pkg vs hotel and admission. Pkgs usually come with extra stuff that you may or may not want.

I would do one Seaworld day and then spend another day doing another activity: Riverwalk (Boat tours, Trolley tours, Alamo), Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch (good time of year to go and avoid crowds), or if you can find a good discount, Six Flags is always fun.

I would also go through hotels.com (great reviews of hotels) and purchase everything separately. When we looked at package deals they were about 30% more expensive than the exact same hotel/ticket combo purchased separately.

One tip: Seaworld will be better on if they go a weekday (less crowds) and if they get there right when it opens.

ETA: We stayed at a resort 10/15 minutes away from both downtown and Seaworld and had no problem with driving to either place and finding parking, so I think choosing a hotel near either would be fine.
