so i have scoliosis i know i can still work and that's not an excuse but its very complicated
for the reason that if i stand for too long ill get back pain and out of nowhere i'll get pain and
i cant stand up i have to bend over and sometimes ill stay stuck and cant get up because it hurts
really bad. All i want to know is if any one knows if i can sign up for cash aid or what exactly can i do
to get any kind of help? I've never worked before i'm 20 years old and the only thing I've done that is close to working is babysitting.

What can I do next?

See if you can get some training through Social Services for a job that you can do...... if standing is a problem, see if you can get training for a desk job.

I have had it since a child. I saw a Chiropractor and am completely fine. I have had 3 kids with no issues. Sometimes my lower back will hurt but the Chiropractor fixed me up. Worth the investment in your health!

I have severe lumbar scoliiosis a broken coccyx and multiple herniation stemming from it all. you can apply for disability. it will only get worse as you get older unless you have it fixed. and of course the surgery is so expensive and you have to be on active disability for 2 years before medicaid will kick in. Unless of course your an illegal or pregnant...then you can get all the free care and services you like.

good luck. I feel your pain. I walk with a cain now and was told "to swtich careers"......but someone on here as a neighbor raping the system for a bad back and it pisses me off.

a chiropractor will not touch scoliosis that has already led to nerve damage....it will make it worse not better....just and FYI.

I grew up with this also, it was so bad when I was a teenager that I couldn't get up from of a chair without help and it has flared up over the years, esp when I was pregnant and/or overstressed.

But like others have commented - GO see a chiropractor. They can help so much!

I'm in my late 40's now and very careful with my spine even though I work an extremely physical job - regular visits to my chiro doc keep me without pain. I hope it will work for you also. Give it a try!

:)

You should consider going to a doctor to help your scoliosis. I have it too since I was a teenager and my chiropractor has helped so much. You can also go to a regular doctor and get a back brace for support.
My chiropractor has helped so much that my spine is not nearly as curved as it used to be, I still go to help keep it straight and for well visits.

V.,
I pay out of pocket for most of my adjustments and if you find a good chiropractor they will work with you on payments. To me it is worth every penny to feel better.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis at twelve and wore a brace for four years. I have always been able to remain physical, although with age and after two pregnancies I have developed arthritis in my lower back. I have used a combination of chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage and yoga to maintain movement. You need to get help asap, as 20 is far too young to start lifelong disability!

Have a chiropractor evaluate you and see. A chiropractor can't reverse what's been done, but can help to stop or slow down the progression and make your life more comfortable. If this had been caught while you were little and still growing, it could have been fixed.

Not all chiropractors are equal, so find one that you like. You shouldn't have to go 3x/week forever, but my friend has scoliosis pretty bad and she goes every 2-3 weeks and it keeps her pain-free and functioning well.

My 13 month old son has it also, and we are going to Shriner's Children hospital. I wish that you had gone to them a couple of years ago, but they stop helping kids at 18. You need to go to a regular doctor, your primary, and get a referal to an orthopedics doctor. Then, they will put you in a back brace that will correct the curve. It might take quite a while, like a couple of years, but it should make you feel a lot better. This should all be covered on your medi-cal. My son's is on Oregon medical. I dont' know what kind of help is available to you for cash assistance, but you can call your case worker and ask. It never hurts to ask and they can give you a straight answer.
