Schools of Choice

Milan Area Schools is School of choice. They do not have full day Kindergarten though but they do have kinderclub which is childcare I think before or after your child's class. If you need more info you can call Lisa Mellinger at ###-###-####. She is the head of the early childhood center and will point you in the right direction. I have no idea where you are in Washtenaw County but this is the only schools of choice district that I know of.

I'm pretty sure Houghton School in Saline offers a full day
kindergarten. Saline has recently become a 'school of choice' district, but it is 'limited'. Call Houghton at ###-###-####, to see if Kindergarten falls within the school of choice option.

My kids go to Lincoln, and they have just recently voted to become a school of choice. They do offer all day kindergarten. Right now it is by a Lotto system. I think they have only 3 or 4 classrooms right now that are all day. There have been rumors of them adding more because so many people want all day. The elementary schools are great here. I can not say that about the high school from what I hear. The high school makes me a little nervous. I do believe Milan is also a school of choice. I am not sure if they offer all day kindergarten or not. Lincoln does offer a before and after school program as far as I know. Good luck to you!!!!!

Some of the Ann Arbor Public Schools offer full-day Kindergarten with before and after care. My son is at Mitchell, where he goes at 7:30 to before care, moves into Kindergarten at 8:45, then goes to after care at 3:45 until I pick him up before 6:00. He had a full-day preschool prior to that so the transition was minimal. I am amazed at how far he's come this year in academics.
Where you send your child may depend up where you live (I wouldn't want to drive my kid across town for school - Mitchell happens to be on my way to work). Some parents focus strictly on MEAP scores, but I looked at whether I thought my son would like the learning environment as well (okay, Mitchell also came reccommended),and chose to send my guy there instead of his assigned school because I thought the environment was more conducive to my son's way of learning.

Have you checked into Saline schools. Last year we had school of choice and I believe we have it again this year. We do have an all day kindergarten program but it has a tuition because the regular district kindergarten is a half day program. The school also has a Latch Key program for before and after school. The extended program is excellent and the whole school district is top notch. If you do attend Saline schools as a school of choice student you can remain in the school district throughout K-12.
