We are moving to Louisville this summer and I know next to nothing about the area. I really need to find a good K-8 school for my kids. They currently attend a private catholic school but I think for financial reasons I will need to put them in a public school. I'm really worried about the transition they will have to make. Can you tell me if you have charter schools there (a non-tuition school that is smaller and requires uniforms)? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
There are not any K-8 public schools other than the Brown School, but the students at Brown are chosen through a lottery system among other things. Not to mention, there is no guarantee all your children would attend. Your really only option is Catholic or St. Francis -- also Anchorage (which is public) but you have to live in Anchorage. However, I am not sure if it is K-8.

well there are no k-8 public schools but we have some great private schools but of cost is an issue you may just have to go to the jcps web site, plus it depends what district you are in. there are atleast 3 school to pick from in each district from what im told. some great private schools are walden which is k-12 and very small, waldorf, scared heart wich is a catholic high school but they also have a modle school for boys and girls the high school is just girls i hope this helped let me know what ares yo are moving to and i can try to get more info for you!

I just did an extensive research for schools in Louisville,Kentucky. You will hear many opinions, and although one must factor those in, most of the time that is all they are; with very little to no facts to back up why one public school is better than another. Needless to say, the change from public to private will need your assistance for transition.

You may want to call the scool board to findout what school your children will attend. This will help you know what school to select at www.schoolmatters.com the database will provide you with actual state scores of AYP and much valued info about the school.
My personal research revealed Oldham County, to have the best public schools in the state of Kentucky. Which is where I plan on residing.
