My son hasn't gotten any lists of supplies for Kindergarden yet. Is this something the teacher normally hands out on the first day? Does he not need to bring anything on the first day? If yes, what should he bring? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Go to the school website and follow the links for school supplies. OR go to Walmart and pick up the school supply list by the front door/where school supplies are.

Our school district posts the supply lists on it's website. If you haven't gotten anything in the mail, I would call the school and ask.

Why ask here and not call the school? Every school is different.

Ours was handed out in the registration day. And I also asked the teacher to email me a copy.

This year, for my son in 1st grade, I just ordered them through school. I will take that easy button, especially since last year I had to go to several stores and still could not get a few things.

You should know who his teacher is, I am sure if you email her she can get you the list.

It depends on each school. Some post it on their websites or send information home beforehand and some do not. I'd start with the school website. If there is nothing listed, I would make sure he has a lunchbox (if you want him to bring lunch) or a lunch account/lunch money in an envelope, a backpack big enough for a full sized folder and some other things (like a lunchbox). It will look huge this year but he really needs a full sized backpack.

FWIW, my DD needed nothing AT school, just supplies at home for her homework. Her school provided all the supplies she needed in class.

I don't think I ever got a list directly from a teacher. They are generally on the school website, at your local Walmart/Target and often in the local newspapers. Every school is different. If you don't find it at any of those, just call the school and ask

Usually if something is required you will be contacted by the school. I HATE it that school's can't give you the common courtesy to inform you in advance, but chances are he'll come home with a list the 1st day of school.

I wouldn't send him with anything.

Our school district posts the list on their website and they also mail out the supply list sometime in August.

Meadow Park & Turtle Rock both have there list on the IUSD page. So you may want to check there (I don't see Northwood's list and don't know all the other schools).

Our school emails it out and puts it on the webpage. Places like Target and Walmart usually have lists for all the area schools. You can always call the school.

It really depends on the school. We got supply lists on the day before school started (orientation) and they asked for the supplies to come in within a week or so. We were never expected to have anything the first day.
You can always call the school and ask!

If you didn't get a list of things to bring don't worry about it. Even if you had a list you wouldn't need to bring those things the first day. Have you had the first day yet? You can ask the teacher about what to bring. You can also go to the school district web site to see if there is a list. Know that your child's school list, if there is one, may be different.

Not to worry. This is definitely not a big deal nor worth spending much energy on.

We didn't get a list before hand. We have not gotten a list at all. The only thing DS's math teacher told them was to pick up a spiral notebook. We are in week two and I think that will be it. YAY!!!
