School Fundraiser

My first child is in kindergarten in a Detroit school. The parents decided to do a fundraiser for technology and classroom supplies. I received the fundraiser kit today. When I was employed I took my nephew's fundraiser packs to work... Now I'm a SAHM and I don't have as much interaction with people. I can't think of any creative ways to sell the items in the catalog. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

OK, I have gone to my local walmart and have asked if I could just leave the fundraiser catalog in the employee lounge and was told that would be fine. I then placed a sticker on the catalog with my information, name # email, etc.... and when people contacted me I took their order and arranged to pick up $. got about 20 orders. Delivery was easy too cause I just had to go to Walmart. that is all I have. Hope it helps. If you can make copies, then you could leave at two different businesses, hopitals, feed stores, some banks, etc. Most places don't mind as long as the soliciatation isn't taking employees from their work and employees don't mind cause they aren't put on the spot.

In our house the only fundraisers we do are Girl Scout cookies and Cub Scout popcorn. We go to our neighbors and my husband takes the flyers to work.

I'm so grateful that my kids' school changed their fundraising approach this year. There will be no selling/brochures. We had ONE event. We had a fun run and they asked each child to raise $50 in pledges. They held a fall fair at the end of the event that sells tickets for games/activities, sells food, and has a raffle for about a dozen items. They also did a coin challenge for about a week where the girls vs. boys, with the winner getting ice cream sundaes. Between the three events they exceeded their goal and we don't have to do anything else the rest of the year. And it was super fun for the kids. Perhaps you could make a suggestion to the PTA to move away from brochure selling to more like the above things?

coming at this from the other side (someone who doesn't have a child in public school but lots of friends who do), please don't make a big deal of it. you can mention it, but then drop it.
if you are uncomfortable with soliciting on the school's behalf, decline the kits and tell them you'll just make a direct contribution and be done with it. i often preferred to write 'em a check for $10 or $20 to peddling corbi's pizza.

Don't stress about it. Mention it to family and friends, and have hubby take it to work. Send out a blanket e-mail. Buy an item for yourself, or make a small donation, and be done with it. I'm so sick of those fundraisers that sell junk and overpriced items, that my daughters know to just dump it in the trash at school.

My son goes to a private school where we live and I too am a SAHM. We live three states away from all family and we dont get out much so when he has to do his fundraisers which are mandatory we just go around to our nearest neightbors who at least we see every once in a while and then I send an email to our family about what the fundraiser is and they send me a check and tell me what they want.
good luck, sometimes it can be more challenging then you would imagine.

I send an email to all of my close friends and family and let them know about it then I post it on Facebook for everyone else to see. My husband also takes it to work with him.

Contact your friends, family, and neighbors (send an email to all at once, it saves time). Say something like "Katie is doing a fundraiser for school. If you are interested, please let me know and I will bring the brochure over".

Then, let her dad take it to work.
