Sahms- Question About Getting Ready for the Day

I don't see anything wrong with a tank top and comfy shorts. It is about 100 degrees here! A pony tail or a messy bun... some flip flops and sunglasses if i have to go out. I don't need to get all fancy, there is no reason. I still feel sexy in my comfy attire...lol! As long as we feel sexy...who cares what others think? My husband paws at me in sweats or in a dress... it does not matter :)

I am SAHM and I do get dressed in clothes that I can go out in even though I know I have no errands or outing that day. I also like to put on a little bit of makeup more so for my husband so he can see me all nice and tidy before he goes to work. I feel better if I am more put together but that's just me.

Even if we are not going anywhere I still take a shower and get dressed. You never know who's going to knock on the door!

I get dressed, but I never fix myself up or anything. Hell, I dont' fix myself up to go to on playdates or to our classes. But I am sure I am unusual in this regard.

i am a sahm....and i always gets dressed, showered, hair done and make-up. just because i'm a mom that stays home doesn't mean i have to look the part. and i do it so i feel better about myself too!! if i feel good than the world looks good!!!!!!

Since I have a severe back problem, I wear my comfy PJ's unless I have to go out of the house to the store or the Dr's office, then I will get dress into shorts or jeans, depending on the weather, but I live in the south so it has been in the 100's so its usually shorts. And all I do is just brush my hair. I am not a big fan of make-up either unless my husband and I are going out somewhere!

I have found that I get more done if I get showered and dressed in the morning. It may just be shorts and a t-shirt but if I leave on my pajamas, I laze around all day. I don't worry about make up unless I am leaving the house.

I always take a shower but I don't put on makeup everyday and sometimes I just let my hair air-dry. I tend to be in a better mood if I put on a little concealer and get dressed so I try to make the effort to do that every day and if I have time, some eye makeup too. If you're not leaving the house, it's not a big deal to wear lounge clothes. Pretty sure my kids don't care what I wear and my husband says he understands why I don't get fixed up every day so I really don't worry about it too much.

I always get myself showered, dressed, hair (my hair is not high maintainence) and I wear some makeup (nothing like putting warpaint on though, LOL)

I do this because I feel better about myself, I am more motivated to get things done, self respect, I like to look nice & polished when I go out anywhere and especially keep my body looking nice for when hubby gets home. He deserves to see me looking nice and know that I care about myself, especially to welcome him home from being on the road or where ever he may have been.

I don't own sweats, much less wear them and I don't do jammies either. I wear cute clothes and embrace my body that I've worked hard to maintin all these years.

This site was acting up most of the day. Hope they got it fixed!

I don't get dressed unless the plans for the day include leaving the house. I went out shopping yesterday after my husband came home so I could take my time and not worry about my daughter grabbing everything and he whistled and said, "Jeans today! FANCY!" I threw a shoe at him.

Nope, I just stay in my 'home clothes.' Not jammies.
But, I inevitably do have to do things outside of the home... so I do 'get ready' in the mornings. And perhaps, it also has to do with how old your kids are or if they are just newborn or bigger kids. Because with older kids, well you do have to get them out and do things.

Another question might be: if that is how the day is on that particular day... do you then, get dressed-up and made-up... for when Hubby gets home at the end of the day???? And welcome him home like in the olden days? LOL

Um... that varies for me and what kind of day I have had. And whether he is even noticing. My Hubby, can't even tell if I am wearing make-up or not. Or if I am wearing something new.

MOST days (we all have our down days!) I make sure to shower, do my hair (it's short, so that is basically included in the shower) and get dressed. But I don't do make-up or put more than jeans on unless I'm going out. However, to me, going out could just be to the supermarket. I just feel better once I'm showered and dressed, but I'm not going to waste my make-up (and time) if I'm not going out at all.

I work from home, rather than just being a stay at home mom. We keep on our sleeping clothes until we have to go somewhere. Some days, we only change when it's bath/shower time. Between working, therapy visits, dr visits, etc for 3 kids (6 yrs, 2 yrs, 8 mo), getting dressed for the day isn't a priority if we don't have to go anywhere. If they are going to lounge around the house and play, they can do that and be more comfortable in their PJs, plus it minimizes laundry LOL. Everyone still brushes teeth and hair, etc, we just don't change clothes (until bath time) if we are hanging out at home for the day.

I'm not a SAHM, but I only work 3 days a week, so I'm home 4. We run around a lot, so usually do get dressed at some point. I don't usually 'fix' my hair unless I'm going to work, or actually going somewhere with my son or fiance, more than just to the store, etc. For everyday stuff, a ponytail is about all I do. As for makeup, I have extremely fair lashes, so I almost always have eyeliner and mascara on, even if it's left over from the day before, because without it, I look ill. No, seriously, people ask me if I'm sick. lol But I don't do the whole makeup routine if I'm just going to be at home, or for those everyday errands. Will do full makeup for work or if we're going out to more than the store, etc. If we're not going anywhere, I 'usually' get dressed, but only into other comfy clothes, like yoga pants and a t shirt, or sweats, etc. My son, who is 4 1/2 dresses himself, and rarely stays in pj's even if he doesn't 'have' to get dressed. In fact, he sometimes changes his clothes a few times a day. Ugh. But there are those days where it just feels good to stay in pj's all day... and on those days, we just do. :)

I get up and shower every morning (before my son gets up) and wear a little foundation. Otherwise, I just feel "yucky" all day! I usually wear casual shorts or jeans depending on the time of year and a shirt or sweater. Nothing special whether I'm going out to do errands or not. I usually just let my hair air dry unless I have to go out early when my hair is still wet. I don't usually style it or anything.

I am a SAHM and I have to shower every day and get dressed in daytime clothes or else I feel like a slacker. If I get dressed and make-up on, it makes me more motivated and gives me more energy to chase my 15 month old around :)

I am a stay at home mom myself so i understand this dilemma but to be completely honest most of the time if i am not doing anything outside of my own house/yard i wear jammies. and my 2yo wont keep close on so when we are in the house all he wears is a oncie. my life revolves around my children so they come first and i am complete last. so i dont have time for my self however it is nice to dress up once in a while even if your not going anywhere and feel like a person and a woman and not just so and so's mom.

I usually take my shower at night, so morning is easy. I just get up, make coffee, get dressed. Sometimes I will wear an old shirt or pants around the house if I'm not going anywhere. If I need to leave, I make sure I'm "presentable". I've never been big on makeup, but I do try to make my hair look nice.
I don't like to hang around the house in jammies because I would feel like a lazy a**. I'd never get anything done!

my morning routine for home days... and going someplace days.. shower comb hair put on clothes.. shorts a a nicer tee shirt in summer or jeans and a long sleeve tee shirt in winter..

no make up except for special occassions.. and I never stay in jammies unless I am sick.

You should always get dressed, fix your hair, wash your face. I don't know how many times I've NOT done those things and either someone comes by un announced, a delivery person comes by or I need to run out in a hurry. But I have found that when I do dress fully (all the way to shoes), do my face & hair, I have more energy & I feel better about myself. Then I'm better for my family.

Just because we choose to be SAHM's doesn't mean we've chosen to stop caring about ourselves.

And think how you're husband will feel coming home to va-va-va-voom and not Alice the Goon (cartoon character from Popeye).

I usually do my hair, dress & put on minimal make-up and do more if I'm going out. But I wont be caught in my jammies again when UPS shows up or have to wait to get dressed to take my son to the clinic to have stitches like I've had happen before.

I personaly do not lay around in my PJs. I have found that it makes me feel down in the dumps if I do. On the other hand, I do not get up and get dressed as if I was going out on the town either. I just get myself and the kids up and get dressed in plain clothes as if we were going to play that day. I have to feel that I look presentable, what I think looks presentable my not work for others. I do not wear make up and spend hours in the bathroom to fix my hair. That is just me!!

It depends!! If I'm spending the day cleaning, then no. Some days I don't shower until 3pm though too. I hardly fall into the category of the 50s houswife where I get all dolled up in time for the hubby to come home =) my daughters & I do have "pj" day every so often... We stay in our pj's all day, watch movies, have a picnic in the living room, do crafts, etc. It's a fun way to de-stress. I say do what makes YOU happy & who cares whàt anybody else thinks ;) have fun!

Hair, clothes, and make-up does not a woman make. My self respect is evident in everything I do everyday, and my guy is welcomed home in the warmest way....I am not an especially girly girl (my daughter is though)...I go for comfort everyday. By the way, for your own sanity, you really SHOULD go somewhere everyday, even if just for a walk around the block with the kids, with or with out make up!

I still usually get dressed, even if I'm not going out--usually as soon as I get up/showered. I also do some make up and at least get my hair looking "normal"! I have really wavy hair and it's usually wrecked after sleeping.

Most of the time I have to go out for some reason so I change my pijamas and I always have my hair in a pony tail. Sometimes I wear little make up but not always.
But there have been days that I do stay in my pajamas. Well, I don't own many pajamas, most of them are sweat pants ad the few pajamas I own are very cute Victoria Secret ones.
The one thing I can't be without is socks, I don't like use shoes in side the house but I like socks.

i dont chill in jammies....but i have definite house clothes that are more comfy, but that id never wear out

I'm not a sahm, but on the weekends or days off I usually change out of my jammies and put on something to lounge around in. Then if I decide to go somewhere or if something comes up, I will then put on clothes to go out in. I stayed with a family member for about 6 months and she gets up and puts on clothes regardless if she's going anywhere or not. She says you never know who may stop by.

I have PJ days, and days where I do "minimal" effort for going into public. I tend to wear tank tops and maxi skirts in the heat- flip flops primarily. I just do concealer on my eyes and mascara... That's about it.

If I have somewhere "nice" to go, I'll do eye shadow and shade in my brows... and put on some jewelry.. That's about it for me.

I'm a happy, proud sahm and am very "relaxed" in my style, but that's how I was before we were married too. However, I think too many women seem to forget that being a sahm IS their actual JOB. Take some pride in it, in yourself, and ACT like it's your job! I get up 10 minutes earlier than my husband and get the baby's diaper changed and give him a bottle, jump in for a quick shower, then I brush my hair and put it back (infant is STRONG and loves to pull hair), brush my teeth and use mouthwash, put on just a tiny bit of base, a spritz of body spray, but that's it. We're not one of those "wife is the servant" families at all: my husband's the last out of the bed so he makes it, and he cleans up after himself in the bathroom when he's finished getting ready for work. We do our morning routine together, but when he leaves for work, I feel like I have started my work day too! I used flylady.com for ideas on how to make my own weekly AND daily schedules, making sure everything gets done in the week (everything from bill paying, to errands, basic chores/cleaning, all meals cooked, menus and shopping lists prepared, we do preschool time 3x/day with my son---playing, but learning at the same time, exercise at the gym, etc). I don't dress in anything special, but it's always clean and always decent to go out in: tshirts or blouses; jeans or capris....if it's the wrong time of the month and i'm feeling blech i may wear looser fitting, more comfortable pants, but still something i wouldn't be embarassed to go to the gym or store in. flylady.com strongly suggests getting dressed, even shoes, everyday. i don't wear shoes because of the baby who's learning to crawl (i don't like shoes on in the house to track in things---they go on a shoe rack by the door), but i dress all the way to socks and take the idea to heart. i think that wearing frumpy clothes can cause you to feel like a frump, act like a frump, and honestly, be kinda lazy. you don't have to wear makeup and jewelry, but get clean, dressed, and have something to do everyday, to look forward to and work towards. take pride in your job, and in yourself! have fun!

I am a stay at home, work at home mom. I'm in grubby's all day long - yes they get changed daily. I wear comfy clothes as least restricting as possible, have my hair up in a scrunchy, no makeup. It is a personal choice. If you want to get dressed, that's up to you - I mean, it is you in your day with your kids, as it is for all moms and likely we will get dirty as our kids throw oatmeal, peas and whatever else they can get their hands on. As long as you're clean and they're clean and your in the comfort of your own home, who cares? That's what being at home is about!

You have to dress, shower and make yourself presentable even if you think you aren't leaving the house....Firstly, you are doing it for yourself and your mental well-being....then if some emergency occurs, you are ready to run and not look like a hag! I always try to do some sort of minimal makeup...tinted moisturizer, cheeks, lips and mascara. The new mineral powders are great as they are quick and can give a nice foundation look. My son is 19 but I would always get up before him, shower and prepare myself before he would be up. You have to plan to get up and give yourself the needed time so you can get it done before they are up. That also means you have to go to bed early enough so you can get up at that earlier time. You also don't want to look like a mess when your husband comes home....the fire may go out if it becomes a habit.....There are other beautiful women out there that he looks at...so don't let him forget why he chose you!

I have a doughter thats 3 and a son that's 2! Befor I got pregnat I wouldn't even go to the mail box without makeup on. Now I can go two sometimes three days without makeup, but I hardly ever go without mascara! As far as gettin dressed, what's the point. The last thing I need is more laurndry to do while setting around the house! I'm looking for a job now and considering day care! I think three years is more than enough! If anyone hears of a decent job opening in the Knoxville Tennessee area PLEASE let me no! ____@____.com

I've found that when I get dressed, first thing in the morning, my whole day goes better. I'm happier with myself, I don't mind doing more, if there's something I need to do I can leave at any time, if my husband surprises me by coming home early, I'm fully prepared for everything lol. It just makes you FEEL better!

I try to always change my clothes, even if it's just into comfy pants and a tshirt and pull my hair back if I'm not going to get dressed up (and by dressed up I mean jeans/capri's and a shirt). But I definitely have days where that does not happen. It's funny to see my husbands reaction when he comes home and I am dressed, hair done and makeup on. Makes me feel good, wish I did it more but it's hard to do when you're a SAHM. It's something no one understands until they are a SAHM. But I wouldn't trade it for anything :)

I have stayed at home for 7 yrs and for the first few yrs I would stay in my jammies most of the day and by 4'ish I would take a shower and put clothes on. I did not want my husband to think that since I stayed home I would not clean myself up for him. I washed my hair but did not fix it or wear makeup. Now I basically take my shower early so I can get my day going unless I am cleaning. Few days I don't shower but then do it next morning. It all depends what is best for you. I have a friend who showers, does her hair, dresses up everyday, all b/c it makes her feel better. She is in a better mood when she does that. You can easily get into a rut by not dressing or showering everyday. ;o)

I mostly do not get dressed, i chill w/ my dd in her pjs...unless I feel like I need a shower then I shower and put a diff. clean pair of PJs on, LOL. I do shower daily though, I will just shower at night if I am not going anywhere bc then my DH can watch my DD and I can take a nice long shower and do something crazy like shave LOL. Most days though we have playdates so I have to shower and dress, but most days I skip the makeup

I wish I could say I always get ready for the day but not always. I dont wear pajamas, usually a tshirt and shorts or sweats to bed. If I have somewhere to go, I always take a shower and get dressed and put on makeup. If not, I sometimes just put on jeans and try to pull my hair back. With a 2yo it isn't always easy to find time to shower and fix my hair until his nap at 1:30 and I am also 9 mo pregnant so then I have to decide if I would rather nap when he does or use the time to shower. My hubby works nights (3-11) so by the time he gets home, I am usually back in my bedtime clothes. He doesn't care whether I am dressed in going out clothes or sweats. I would prob feel better and less tired if I did take time in the AM to shower and get "ready for the day". Hopefully I can find a routine that works for me with 2 little ones in the house.
