I had a root canal today - I've never had much dental work done (no braces still have my wisdom teeth). Anyhow, I'm still in a lot of pain, my crown will be implanted in about 3 weeks.

If you've had a root canal - how long until your face stopped hurting? I know everyone is a little different but this shouls give me a general idea.

Thanks moms!

I've had a couple of root canals, one twice on same tooth!!

It is not fun, it hurts afterwards as well. I don't know the "norm" of pain.

If you had root canal today.... Give yourself a couple of days minimum to get to a semi normal feeling.

My mouth does not numb well ( lol) as in I typically feel things much more and sooner than normal. I get double dosed with numbing meds and I have 100% feeling in record time. Lucky me!!!

If you feel you are not within the norm of what the dentist told you for expectations post root canal... Call them!! They want you to be ok and have as little pain as possible.

My dentist is very open and welcomes any call of concern after any procedure. Gees... He woke me one night ( pain med induced sleep) to make sure I was ok.

it usually takes me about 24 hours to get past it. tylenol will usually do the trick, but don't be afraid to call the dentist and have him prescribe something stronger if necessary. i'm surprised he didn't offer it at the office.

Not trying to scare you but my root canal triggered a migraine that lasted a week and a half. It might have been a reaction to the numbing agent. We're not sure.
My husband was feeling fine after a couple days or so after his.
Everyone is different.

My husband whined a little the night he had it done, he was fine the next day.

I would imagine like all procedures it depends on how difficult it was. If they had to do a lot of digging and maneuvering you are going to hurt longer than someone who's procedure went smoothly.

Never had a root canal but have had some serious dental procedures; wisdom teeth pulled, baby and permanant teeth pulled, unexposed permanant tooth pulled down to join the jaw line (tooth was not growing in and under skin of the roof of my mouth. they cut a hole in the roof of my mouth, put a braces bracket on the tooth, and slowly pulled it down to join the rest of the teeth.), GUM GRAFT ( take the skin from the roof of your mouth and sew it on receding gum line of other teeth . . . purpose to keep all of your teeth so you don't lose them and have to get false teeth.
From everythin I have had, I will tell you that dental pain can be the absolut worse and can take some time to go away.
So, some people have no pain and you do . . . that is normal. Ask the dentist for pain medication.
Good luck

My brother lives in Frisco!! Just thought I'd share....

Stay ahead of the pain with Advil or Motrin!! As the meds wear off, before you hurt, start taking it so you are never in full throttle pain. Should be MUCH better today.
