Relocating to Fort Wayne

My husband is considering a job opportunity near the Fort Wayne area. We currently live in the suburbs of Chicago so I am looking for some input on communities to consider living. I have three young kids, 5, 3 and 1, so a good school system is very important. The job is actually in Pierceton so I believe the West or Northwest side of Fort Wayne would be most convenient. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I live in Southwest Ft. Wayne, and love it!! There are Public Montessori schools here, the cost of living is fairly reasonable, and there are TONS of activities for children of all ages. The city even sends out season by season booklets of child and adult programms in the Ft. Wayne community. My in-laws live on the Northwest side, and they have awesome schools, and a large selection, she would know being the mother of 10 haha. If you have anymore questions let me know, and good luck!!

We relocated to Fort Wayne two years ago, and I hate it. Fort Wayne Community Schools are awful. There are no suburbs to the city. It's just the city and it seems to be surrounded by either farmland or the Amish. Not that that's a bad thing, we just wanted to find a place that was out of the city, but not in the middle of the country. I live on the Northeast side of Fort Wayne. It's a good area, but just not for us. For some reason, the people in this city are very unfriendly. I've had a really hard time making friends since we moved. We are currently looking to move back to Ohio. I don't want to be a negative nancy, but I just thought I'd share my experience with you. My advice would be to come to the city and drive around for a day. Get a feel of the place.

We relocated to Fort Wayne six years ago and live on the Northwest Side, we have a very friendly neighborhood with alot of transplants which has made things easier. Our public schools are Northwest Allen County: Cedar Canyon Elementary. There are also private schools available in the area. Good Luck in your search. Some of the towns outside of Fort Wayne seem to be very small.

Hi J.,
I've lived on the Northeast side of Fort Wayne my entire life and am quite partial to the East Allen County School district...more specifically Leo. I also agree that Northwest (Carroll) and Southwest (Homestead) are also very good places to be. If you need a daycare I highly recommend Pine Hills Kiddie Garden. My 2yo daughter goes there and LOVES it. There's one Northeast in Leo and one closer to Northwest as well. I hope this helps. If you have any other quests please let me know. D.

Hi J.,

My family and I also relocated to Fort Wayne fron the city of Chicago!!! We came to live in the Nothwest of Fort Wayne and we love it! We came to live in a subdivision called Pine Valley and the homes in Fort Wayne are also alot more affordable than in Chicago! the schools are also very good. Some of the good good districts are Northwest Allen County Schools or East Allen Schools! Good luck with your search!

Either Northwest, which is C. School District, or Southwest, which is Homestead School District. Stay out of Fort Wayne Community Schools if you can.

Southwest is awesome! It's kinda the "ritzy" side of Fort Wayne if there is such thing, and has all kinds of great shopping plazas and children's activities.
