I am 35 (36 on the 11th) and I was diagnosed with asthma a year ago. It has been hard to find the right medication for me. Everything makes me sicker because it clashes with my bllod pressure medications. Anyone got any suggestions about a home remedy?

What can I do next?

My daughter was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago. She was on several medications that were making her feel lousy. They prescribed other medications that she just wouldn't take. Very long story short...my chiropractor started giving her regular adjustments. She is off all medications and as healthy as any child can possibly be. At first, she saw the chiropractor twice a week. Then once a month. Now, once every 6 weeks, sometimes longer. If you would like more information, email me: ____@____.com. I will be happy to help in any way I can. My son had major sinus problems (also on medication). He started going to my chiropractor for severe nosebleeds, stuffiness, and headaches. He is off all medications and is doing great too!

Hi M.,

First, I am sorry that you are going through a rough patch in life.
My son is asthmatic. When he is stressed or exposed to extreme temperatures, an asthma attack can be triggered. Coffee has proven itself to be extremely useful.

I'm not sure about medications, but an air purifier should help. Also, you might try to use Tide Free washing powder to help reduce additional allergens and Dove Sensitive Skin soap and Cetaphil lotion for your skin. My husband has asthma and these seem to help him out. I have high blood pressure issues (I'm 34) and I drink a lot of bottled water and try to cut out cokes and reduce my sodium.

What kind of medications have you tried? One option you have other than albuterol for a fast acting bronchodilator is xopenex. It is less likely to cause increased heart rate than albuterol inhalers. Advair is a good option for a steroid and long acting beta blocker ot help you use the fast acting bronchodilator less and less. Advair should not interact with your blood pressure meds. I am a apharmacist and would be happy to give you some information if you tell me what you have been tried on. Hope this helps

Hi M., Don't despair, there is hope! For most of my (69) life from childhood asthma was always a plague. It didn't go away in adulthood. The drugs, inhalers etc. were marginally effective. Finally, with antibiotic resistant infection. ( they thought I had TB)in a life -threatening state I was blessed with a MD who was nutritionally oriented.
Blood test for food sensitivities followed, 2 week detox, IV
therapy, targeted antibiotic, and colon hydrotherapy. My life changed dramatically! No more attacks, no more drugs and I remain so for ten years now, not even a single cold or flu. I was so excited that I went back to school (both college &natural health institute) went to work in an integrated medical practice ( reg & alternative) as consulting nutritionist. I also teach wellness classes at the college. It is a pleasure to help others find better health! Today I am healthy, happy, 35 lbs. less and others tell me that I look 20 yrs. younger! Check out some books by Ann Wigmore, wheat grass pioneer. May the Lord bless you
and your family. G. R.

Have you ever wondered if the cleaners you use around your house could be making your asthma worse. I had really never thought about it untill my youngest son was diagnozed with asthma from birth and I have to give him nebulizer treatment twice a day with two medecines. I am sure you will agree it was not easy for me. Anyway, when he was about one year old. a lady contacted me and told me about I knew store where I could get all my products I used at home without the harsh chemicals that are linked to so many causes to illnesses such as asthma, cancer, bronchitis, pnuemonia, etc. I know what you are thinking and I was thinking the same thing, is this really true and how much more money will I have to spend for these products? My husband was very spectical as well. However, after looking at the store and its products, it was the best decision we ever made. After using these new products for a month, I was able to get my son off the nebulizer, he is almost two and has been able to stay off it completely. My other three sons who have severe allergies have also been able to miss their allergy medicine without having to get sick. This store is called Melaleuca, The Wellnes Company. If you would like more information on this company and store please call me at ###-###-#### area code 615 or email me at ____@____.com or look at my website www.workathomeunited.com/myfoursons. I hope this helps you.

M., my regular doctor changed my blood pressure medicine to fit my asthma medicine instead of the other way around. I think there are more blood pressure options from what I understand.

I have had asthma almost all of my life, medications seem to differ with other medications that you have to take and the side effects can be rather cruel at that. If your asthma is allergy induced try using hypo allergenic cleaners on your clothes. If you have pets use things that bring down the pet dander in the house. Coffee helps as well. If you ever find yourself starting to have an asthma attack drink a cup of black coffee. It may not taste very well but it does open up your lungs so you can breath better (it is the caffine in it). Also if you get sick and you find yourself having a hard time breath take a hot shower and breath in the steam, you can also use the shower tabs that you can get over the counter, they are called SudaCare Shower Soothers. Try the lavender mint ones, they are gentle on your breathing but also help to open you up a bit so you can breath better. Like I said I have had asthma all of my life (all 23 years of it...LOL), and my mom has taught me a few things. If I can think of anything else to help I will let you know. Hope you feel better and I hope that this helps a bit.

Hi M.,
My son, who's 11, suffers with asthma as well. As one mom suggested, black coffee is good to open up your lungs. Also, black tea works as well. What I give my son most often is black tea with honey and lemon juice in it.
A lot of medicines work different individually, so there's is a lot of sampling of medications to see what works best for you. Hopefully the black tea and/or the black coffee will help give you some relief.
Give it a try and let us know how it works.

Many household cleaners cause respiratory problems and increase the risk of developing asthma. There is a government website you can go to and type in the name of the chemicals you are using and it will tell you which ones are harmful. Visit http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/ingredients.htm
If you want a recommendation for non-toxic cleaners, let me know.

Hi M.,

I don't know what medications you are using, but I use Advair and my inhaler albuterol when there's a major flair up of asthma. I have 2 dogs and a cat and serious asthma trouble.

You can also try a warm cloth and vicks to open up your airpassages. If you take the vicks and apply around your chest and put the warm cloth on your chest as well it helps too.

Two years ago I was using two inhalers per day. I went to a chiropractor that does acupuncture. He told me to get off all wheat and dairy products. My general practioner was about to send me to a pulmonologist. I stopped consuming wheat and milk products and I haven't used an inhaler since. I feel much better. Do not stop taking your asthma medications, but alter your diet and see if it makes a difference. I can eat spelt bread, it is wheat based but doesn't have gluten. There are a variety of rice and brown rice pastas. T.M.

Hi M.,
I had asthma for over 30 years. Although I can't recommend a better medication, I know I took Singulair, had an inhaler and a nebulizer. All it took for me was to switch stores! I now shop with a wholesale membership wellness company and I NO LONGER HAVE ASTHMA!!! Not only have I saved money not buying the prescriptions, but the products are much more cost effective than what I was buying at Krogers or Wal-Mart. Give me a call or go to my website and I will be happy to tell you all about it! and by the way....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
