Hello. Does anyone know of any good preschools in the Gresham area? My son will be turning 3 this year and I would like to get him into a preschool in the fall.

Thanks.

Hi M.,

My son attended Golden Montessori. Teacher Mary is the teacher, and she is wonderful! My son was pretty shy, so it was a great way to introduce him to school. I have a daughter who is almost three, and the only reason I am not taking her to Golden Montessori is because I live in Portland now, so it isn't close enough. Her prices are very fair, too. I have included her information. Good luck!

Gresham High School has a preschool program - - High school students and teen parents are working with the children as well as preschool teachers. It is truly the best!! Very reasonably priced as well.

I highly recommend Scribbles Preschool. I sent my son there last year and my daughter is going this year. Even though we are moving to Oregon City this summer I still plan to enroll her there next year and deal with the commute, they are that good!!!

The owner and primary teacher is Ms. Jill and she is a delight and so great with the kids. She has many years of experience. She just brought on an assistant, Ms. Karen who is a great addition.

They are an academic preschool and focus on learning how to write their names, as well as the letters and numbers. They learn social skills, and manners, plus weather, days of the week, and how to talk in fornt of a group (sharing time).

Their website is www.scribblespreschool.com

Good luck!!

not sure what end of gresham you are on, but we are currently attending the phonics phactory in gresham off of 257th near division. this is our second year there, but first year for all my kids. I actually started doing some odd jobs around there this year just to be more involved with my children. it is a small private school and is only 3 days a week. you can check out their website www.phonicsphactory.com or call the school for a tour and speak with Nicole in the front office. ###-###-####. if you are interested in more info, i would be more than willing to talk with you and answer any questions you might have. i know that first school decision is always the hard one.

Hi M.
My name is J. and I too live in the Gresham area. My daughter has went to the Sam Barlow Preschool for the last 2 years. I really love it! There were a few I checked out and liked but honestly they were pretty expensive. The Sam Barlow Preschool was different. It only cost $150 per semester. They go 4 days a week from 10:15 to 12:45. I was a little skeptical of the high school students with my baby, but it really worked out for the best cuz Abi got a lot of one on one attention from them. Of course the whole program is supervised by a preschool teacher who is great. This is Abi's last year and she has learned so much. She is MORE than ready for kindergarden this fall. The preschool is located on the high school campus. I suggest if you are interested that you get in touch with Loraina Dupree ASAP due to the fact there will be or already a waiting list. Hope this helps. Good luck

Hi M.,
My daughter also attends Scribbles Preschool. I really like it and she does too. When looking for a preschool I did a ton of calling around - like every single preschool I found in the phone book and on-line. Scribbles was in my price range as well as offering the type of preschool I was looking for (non-religious and part-time). This year, 3-4 year olds go from 8:30ish to 11:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the cost is $95/mo. While the preschool is located in a church classroom it is not faith-based and they do not offer religious education - this was important to us as we would like to be the ones setting our children's values, not someone else.
Ms Jill and Ms Karen are great with the kids. They really work on teaching proper ways to interact with "friends", patience, how to stand in line, as well as the other points that the other mom pointed out. My daughter loves the other kids but definitely needed help when it came to how to play well with others and the teachers have been really good helping her with that. She also comes home with the cutest craft projects!
The classroom is bright and cheerful - another selling point. We visited 3 preschools for the morning before choosing and when it was time to leave Scribbles, she didn't want to go - she's still the last one to leave every morning (thank you for your understanding Ms Jill!).
I could go on, but I'll leave it at that and maybe you'll check it out if it sounds like something you're interested in!

Good luck and go with your gut instinct because what's right for you and your son is what matters most! I highly recommend visiting ones you are interested in with your child - watch his interactions with the other children, how they interact with him, and how the teachers interact with the children (including your son) - that was my biggest deciding factor.

Hi M.. I can't say enough about the Gresham Montessori Center in downtown Gresham. I don't know if you are familiar with the montessori philosophy but I love how they teach the children life skills, independence and how to contribute to their school and at home. I won't lie, it's a little pricey probably compared to some other pre-schools. They actually have a program for younger toddlers (12 months - 36 moths) were my twins are enrolled. They are 2 and this school has been a life saver for us. They were getting in-home occupational therapy for eating issues and speech delays and after 2 months at the school, they were doing great and we don't need the OT services any more. Your son would be in the Children's House which is for 3-5 year olds.
