I put in an earlier request for suggestions on daycares in the n.dallas/plano/garland area for my 3yr old son. Some of you mentioned looking into preschools. I've been told that in order to qualify you have to be of a certain income level or the child has to be bilingual or have a special need. If that's true my son won't qualify. Is that how it works? And what are montissouri schools? Are most preschools religious based? As you can see I really don't know the first thing about preschools. Any info you could give would really be appreciated!!

What can I do next?

Actually in PISD, you can enroll in Pre-K, it is under PISD.edu
and it is under tuition supported preschool. It is like around $200 a month. The lady that runs it is so nice, but since I am going to school myself, the hours did not work for me. Hopes this helps.

I am a teacher in Plano, and our district does have those requirements to attend FREE preschool but anyone can enroll if they are willing to pay. There are many religious/non-religious preschools in our area not affiliated with the school district. My son attends Plano International Preschool (all kids ages 2-5) and we love it! (Custer and Park). He also attended a wonderful home daycare (also 2-5). If you want more info...contact me and I'll get you some phone numbers.

Hi D.,

I also have a 3 yr. old and he has been in school since he was 1 yr. old. Montessori schools are a wonderful place to start your child (if you can afford the tuition!) The few here by us, in Arlington, run about $500 to $1,000/month depending on days & hours they attend!!! But the Montessori view encourages self discovery and they play with true wooden toys and puzzles. We attend a summer program at Country Day Montessori and just love it!

During the school year, he attends a church-school program and we also love that! We plan on him attending private school, but a good sized one. The problem I see with the Montessori schools is that as they get older, most only go through 8 th grade and the classes are so small, like 10 students in the whole grade! Then you're faced with where to put them for high school - I'm a planner!

My feedback for ya! I love the church-based schools and most are actual preschools, certified by the state.

Hi, check out Primrose Schools. I have had my kids in Primrose, in two different locations, and I love it. My oldest went to one over in Rockwall, which is just on the other side of Lake Ray Hubbard on I-30 east. The other two have been, and are, going to the Primrose in Mansfield. I also believe there's one in north Dallas, too. Here's their website so you can check it out: http://www.primroseschools.com Also, they are not religion based, and as far as I know the only criteria is whether or not you can pay the tuition. Hope this helps!

I have also been looking into p[reschools lately and have found that in order to get my child into pre-k through the school dist, you have to qualify by income or language, which we don't qualify. The same is true for headstart also. I found an affordable ($60 per mo.!) preschool through our park dist. that is only twice a week, but i live in Arlington. Try looking at yuor park dist. programs and see what you find. I really thought it was unfair to have to qualify with income or language because we pay so much out of pocket for healthcare and my husband pays childsupport that they don't consider and i don't receive any cs from my ex. If they did consider these thing we would qualify.
