Potty Training When Away from Home.

When my daughter transitioned to the real toilet, put her little plastic potty in my car trunk, lined the 'bowl' with a kitchen trash bag (kept a box of trash bags in the truck also and tissues ,hand wipes). If we were out and she had an "I gotta go" we'd go to the parking lot... Oh, I know... I'm the Queen of the parking lot potty! However, she was scared of public toilets because they seemed so loud and I didn't want that to interfere with potty training.

I myself would not want to carry around a toilet insert when I was at the mall, etc. Besides being bulky, it would gross me out, in that it would pick up any germs that are on the public toilet.

We had the same problem, and found a wonderul folding potty seat at Wal-Mart. It's super thin, and folds into quarters, so it fits into the outside pocket of her diaper bag. Of course, it has the Disney Princesses on it, so my daughter loved it!!

You do have to position it just right on puplic/industrial toilets, but once you get used to getting it on there correctly, it's a life saver.

It was great! She's been potty trained for almost a year now, but keep it in her backpack for when we're out on long outings. That way, if she feels like she needs it, we have it.

Just a tip: it is always REAL handy, to get a "car potty". That is what we have... and it has been a LIFE saver MANY times... for my kids when we are in transit or in traffic or on the road or at a place where there is no toilet or no clean toilet... and the kids have to pee/poop and can't possible hold it until we get home or un-stuck in traffic.

Just go to www.amazon.com and put it the search word "on the go potty." Or sometimes kid/baby stores have them.
There are many different styles.

My kids are 3.5 and 7 years old... and they STILL use it. We have used it since my first child was potty trained. So for about 5 years now. STILL real handy.

I highly recommend it.

Keep a potty in your car. I get made fun of by some of my friends (some of which have potties in their cars now), but it is a life saver. You don't have to deal with public potties and your child is more comfortable using a potty she is familiar with. You don't have to worry about the germs of public restrooms.

When my son was potty training, i bought a folding potty seat for travel that I kept in the diaper bag/backpack. It only cost about $10. It folded compactly enough to even stuff in my purse if necessary and helped alot! He was small, so he could sit more comfortably on a public toilet seat -- not to mention much more sanitary! I used a potty seat that I found at Target that folds up in 4 sections. it is great for travel is small enough to carry with you all the time. congratulations on getting potty training started so young.
I bought mine in Illinois haven't seen any here in Tx. I would try online at Target if it is not at the store.

Have you seen the potty seats that fold up for travel? They have them at walmart. They look like they would fit in a diaper bag or large purse.

Our son learned to sit before he was ever interested in standing to go to the bathroom.

I personally wouldn't recommend taking the potty seat everywhere you go. I'd just teach her to hold herself up by pressing against the sides of a standard toilet and help prop her up.

Personally, I'm not as concerned about using the seat covers because we thoroughly wash hands afterwards and carry sanitizer in the diaper bag.

That's great she's recognizing it at such an early age. Congrats!

Get the folding travel potty seat from Walmart. I have a 3 year old who is intimidated by "big" potties so we always bring the folding seat with us even if it's just to dinner at a local restaurant, etc. And it's much more sanitary (just remember to give it wash, especially after frequent use!).

I have a daughter and a son. We travelled quite a lot and I never took a potty seat anywhere with us.
Your daughter is very young...my kids were too when they were potty trained. You just have to hold them up on the toilets. Seat covers are great, but sometimes they just fall off before you can get a little tushy on one.
Just make sure you wash hands very well when you're done.
My kids were so easy to potty train and I think it's maybe because I sat them on the potty every time I went. My turn. Flush. Now it's your turn.
My son was actually easier than my daughter so the myth that boys are harder doesn't always ring true.
Big potties can be scary so I always bent down and held my kids under their arms. I let them "hug" me so they knew I wouldn't let them fall.
I did that at home too.
I thing you're doing a great job and just do the "hug" thing.
I, personally, wouldn't pack a potty seat around, but that's just me.

I've heard of and seen the portable potty seat covers, but I never wanted to mess with it. With both my boys, I just held them on the potty and let them go, then we just wash hands afterwards, no biggie. For me, that's easier than trying to carry something around. Plus, they don't get dependent on only going in one place; mine were never particular about that, but I know some kids are and I think it's helpful for them to learn to go in a variety of places. Plus, I always make them go before we leave the house so as to avoid a public potty trip if possible.

Since I travel with extra changes of clothes, I make my girls wait the few extra seconds and I use the toilet seat liners or toilet paper. When you are shopping you may want to make sure she sits on the potty before you leave the house and then have her sit on the potty as soon as you get to the store. To help cut down on potty trips while shopping, limit her drinks.

Whatever you are most comfortable with! I was NOT interested in carrying around a toilet seat (even a small one ... I usually go purseless), so I just held my son. Good luck!

That is what I used for my son before he was tall enough to stand up. I know you dont have the stand up problem but they sell travel (fold up) seats in fun characters, let her pick one out and just carry in a large gallon zip lock bag. They truely are great.
