We went with Safety First One Step Trainer Seat (it latches on to the toliet seat and lifts up when not in use) and both my kids loved it. The thing I liked so much about it is that we didn't have to make another transition from potty chair to toilet and there was no need to have clean out the potty chair. All we did was flush and in fact, they loved to flush the toilet that that in itself was a reward for going. The bad thing is that from what found, you can now only buy it on line (Amazon.com).

Don't get mad when they have accidents - tell them it happens.

Set a timer and take them every 30 minutes - do not ask if they have to go. They will probably say no!

Use underwear (even those with padding) instead of pull-ups.

Carry extra underwear, pants, wipes and toliet paper in your car or purse.

Realize you will get pee all over your house, carpet, floor and couch while doing this!

Reward for success - this can be a song, dance, candy, sticker - whatever works.

If they are not interested in going, do not push it. They will be ready in their own time.

I found my daughter likes to use the big potty over the small one that sings when she goes.

Get a stool so your child can wash his/her hands afterwards.

Wait until they are showing signs of interest and readiness. That's what our pediatrician has advised through 2 kids - our son was a few weeks past three and has had few accidents and no regression. Our daughter is recently 2 and has no interest, so we're holding off for the time-being.

Encourage and cultivate their curiousity, but don't push!

We have the Graco potty chair and love it. It is shaped like a regular toilet seat only a bit smaller and has a comfy cushioned seat.

For an actual method to use check out the e-book at www.3daypottytraining.com by Lora Jensen. It is amazing and my daughter was seriously potty trained within the 3 days (even at night). Good luck!

We have a Bjorn chair and the potty seats that fit over the toilet. Our daughter made the choice to sit on the potty with the seat (we have a Dora seat and an Elmo seat). It may help to let the little one choose between a couple of options.

The first one that I bought was a Bjorn (sic?) because there were great reviews. I have had it for quite some time because I wanted to be ready for whenever he showed interest. He would occasionally sit on it or have his stuffed animal sit on it. Also, during naked time, I was able to get him on it in mid poop one time and he was so proud.

I was recommended one on here that was the Primo 4-in-1 that I got. It has a removable seat that can fit on the big toilet, and then the potty can be used as a step. This is much softer and he seems to like this one better. He has been talking about using the potty lately (2 yo), and this morning he wanted to poop on the potty (but wanted the potty in the kitchen! whatever works). He wasn't able to poop, but he did pee in it for the first time!

I am a true believer in being ready for whenever they are interested, while not pushing or discouraging them (granted, this is my first!).

My daughter got a compact, one-piece (easy to clean), colorful and inexpensive seat from Ikea. Worked great.

Good luck on this new adventure. I hope you will let your child take the lead on this – the process is ususally quick and satisfying for all when the child is emotionally and physically ready.

I would get one that is just one piece and easy to carry from room to room if needed. We have one that comes apart into multiple pieces and my daughter is more interested in taking it apart than using it!
