How do you handle PMS..I mean like keeping it in control? I have terrible PMS to the point I don't like myself. I find myself snapping at my daughter and her friends (all around 4-6 yrs old) for about 2 weeks before my period comes. I feel horrible for being like that but it seems like I can't help it. I'm not taking birth control, my insurance won't cover it and truthfully, I don't want to pay for it. Any natural remedies I can try? The household is so much calmer when my PMS goes away...please help!!! LOL

I use GABA Plus at my local health hut store...works GREAT! Also vit. B complex. I have also cut salt and no caffeine (for myself-I just couldn`t handle it anymore-too jittery) and I can not believe the difference! I can`t even tell Im starting!

Red raspberry leaf tea (or RRL for short). It's an herbal tea - excellent for all things womanly. You can drink it in pill form (capsule with the herbs crushed in it) or you can drink it in tea form. Tea works best, but capsules work really good too.

Anyway, I get pretty bad PMS about 3-4 days prior to my period. I start drinking RRL tea at least three times a day, and it COMPLETELY goes away. It's bizarre. It's like magic.

It sounds like yours starts much earlier. You might need to take it or drink it every day for the whole month to get it to help you, but I swear to you this stuff is amazing. Not only does it help my PMS disappear, but it also takes away cramps. For the cramps, it works just as good as ibuprofen does for me. It's so weird how well it works. Then it lightens my period and shortens it. It's awesome stuff. It's all natural and has been used by women in certain cultures for womanly things for a really long time.

If you can stand to drink herbal teas, just drink it three times a day, every day. If not, take capsules. It balances hormones, so that is why you might need it longer since your PMS starts so early. Or you can try drinking it only while you are having PMS - at least 3-5 cups during that.

Just be forewarned that it also can help with fertility. Since it balances hormones, it can make you more easily able to get prego. I have used it for that purpose too, and after six months of trying (not taking RRL), I took it for two weeks and ended up prego.

Good luck!

Your insurance won't cover BIRTH CONTROL?! Time to find a new insurance!

Seriously though, hit up Planned Parenthood. Call them and ask for guidance. Not only can they provide VERY low cost BC (sometimes free), they can also help you with other things like managing PMS.

The best natural remedy, though? EXERCISE and activity. Just getting out of the house and doing some moving around where you sweat and breathe hard (or in the house! ;o) can make ALL the difference!

I take a natural supplement called "Vitex" by Nature's Way.
It HAS... markedly improved my PMS.

Go to a Whole Foods, and ask them for information for PMS. I have found them to be VERY knowledgeable. And helpful.

PMS, is cyclical, and hormone based. Thus, it is different than just being irritable or having a bad mood.

I only get PMS, at PMS times.
But my irritability is much better now and sometimes I can't even tell, when I am PMS'ing.

try meditation and stress relief... look up proper meditation online. 15 minutes of meditation every day can really help with stress... no matter the cause. Also..lf you are feeling "down on yourself", go look in a mirror and try to point out everything you like about yourself, inside and out. Try NOT to "minimize" your compliments. by saying things like... "I like my eyes, but..." Keep it simple and just say "I like my eyes." Our minds are powerful tools and positive thought is magnetic... thinking 'happy thoughts' really is a magical way to transform yourself!

I have bad PMS at times... but if you are aware of it, and actively work on remedying it BEFORE you start snapping, you'll feel much better overall.

Oh and Christy P's suggestion is also a sure winner! Exercise releases endorphins to increase your mood, and it gives you a lasting sense of accomplishment and boosts your self esteem, especially when you start achieving fitness goals and building inner and outer strength!

Most women suffer PMS needlessly. Meds will alleviate symptoms, but won't get to the root of the problem.
Just one month on the right supplements took care of my horrible PMS and cramps. They also allowed me to sail through menopause while almost every other woman in my family had to have hysterectomies.
Let me know if you want to know what I used.

I take fluoxetine (generic for prozac) It helps so much. I take it for two weeks out of the month about 2 weeks after I start my period which ends up being about the day I ovulate. I didn't take it last month cause I wanted to see if I could control it on my own, well lets just say it was so bad I am surprised my husband and I are together still. I am a much happier mom/wife when I take it.

I take Krill Oil and WOW.. it has made a difference, not just for PMS but even when I get a minor case of the blues. I definitely notice a difference as to how I feel when I don't take it.
Also, IF you can.. less processed carbs and saturated fatty fats.. when I junk out, I definitely feel "junky" as it were..
Lots of water and if you can.. EXERCISE.. a rigorous sweaty exercise.. that definitely helps me control the pms AND my anxiety..

best to you

I am older than you, but the PMS became so bad I was so aggressive, I was scaring myself.

I did not want to be out of control,. It would pop up and I would not realize it till I totally lost control.

To prevent PMS, have a healthy diet. It is not what one does the week or two weeks before their period but the entire month. Eat healthy 80% of the time and 20% of the time eat what you want and enjoy it.

Since only 3% of the American population eats according to the food pyramid guide, it is wise to use supplements. B Complex is great for moods (I call it the B happy vitamin), a good calcium/magnesium/vitamin D supplement is great for preventing cramps and of course everyone needs the calcium and the vitamin D has many positive affects on the body.

If you find yourself stressed, get protein or vitamins into your body. You will calm down and it will help offset the affects of stress.
