my 16 month old has been sick for days. Two days ago he had diarrhea (lasted one day) and he didn't want to eat much. I stopped giving him dairy and gave him pedialyte. Yesterday he ate a little more and has really bad gas. Today he ate more than yesterday, I gave him milk today, but still has pretty bad gas. Obviously something is upsetting his tummy or did. I was told not to give him dairy, but instead what shall i give him. He usually falls sleep drinking milk and as far as foods, what can I feed him to help him calm his tummy?? He's super active, doesn't stop playing, is doing everything the same...except his gas and very little appetite. Thank you

What can I do next?

As long as he's playing okay and things are fine except his tummy, he's likely going to be fine. Don't worry about him not eating much. He will when he feels better.
Try applesauce and toast. He might even like the applesauce ON his toast.
Don't give anything with fats, like butter.
My kids loved cream of wheat when their tummies were upset...with a little brown sugar.
They had no wheat allergies.
It's warm, soothing and they did fine with it.

He'll be back to himself soon, Mom.
Hang in there!

Hi Krys! I'm sorry your little guy isn't feeling well. We try to to bland foods when the boys have upset tummies, like the brat diet- I think it's bananas, rice, applesauce and toast? We usually do toast with a little peanut butter, or some apple slices. Maybe try some soda, like sprite or 7 up. I'm always nauseated or motion sick from something, and sometimes carbonated drinks are the only thing that helps me! I don't know if it will help your son, soda bubbles seem to be the exact opposite of what you'd give a gassy baby, but I don't think a sip or two should hurt. Sorry if that advice sucks, I just wanted to let you know what usually works for us :)

I hope his little tummy feels better soon!

You might try easing him back onto dairy with yogurt since it is easier to digest and has bacteria that's good for the digestive system. My friend's child (age 2) has asthma and it is made worse by milk but she drinks drinkable yogurt instead with no problems.

I would go to Whole Foods and purchase a children's chewable probiotic. The clerks there are pretty knowledgeable about the products they carry so I am sure that you can tell them what issues you are having and they will recommend a good quality probiotic for your son. The probiotic will help repopulate his digestive tract with good bacteria which is probably in low supply right now.

Instead of giving him milk to drink, try giving him a milk substitute instead like almond milk, soy milk or hemp milk. I've also heard that goat's milk is easier to digest than cow's milk because it more closely resemble's the molecular structure of human milk. You can give goat's milk a try but your son may find the taste to be too tangy.

And then you can also implement the BRAT Diet with him until he gets better. Bananas, Rice, Apple Sauce & Toast.

Hope this helps and that he feels better soon.

Maybe Silk would be good. It tastes good :) Did his pediatrician tell you he had anything? Hopefully some moms here know tummy-calming foods because I do not, sorry. But the silk would probably be a good idea... the vanilla one is really good.

Try the BRAT diet, it's supposed to stop diarrhea. Although, it kind of sounds like he's getting over it and the gas is just the aftermath of all that diarrhea.

B bananas
R rice
A apple sauce (I think)
T toast

It hasn't been that long. I would say keep doing what your doing & not to worry that much unless he develops a high fever or it lasts for like a week or something. If he's got gas that is painful, maybe try some of the ol' Mylicon drops you probably used on him as a baby. :) Good luck!

I am sorry your little one is not feeling well.
Something that has always work with my kids is give them a Portuguese roll, is a bread like this:
http://www.europeanbakers.com/EB_Varieties/Variety.cfm?Ca...
You can find it in many stores maybe with different names.
For drink is good apple juice with some water.
This is something my mom gave us and I give to my kids when they have tummy problems.
Hope this help.
