I think the only way to get rid of pink eye is to get the antibiotic drops from a physician.
Warm compresses will help relieve the itching and pain, but it will still be very contagious.
WASH, WASH, WASH. That's the only way not to transmit it to anybody. I hope you can hold out until Monday or find a physician who will get the drops for you.

Conjunctivitis has more than one strain. Some viral, some bacterial. Your doctor will tell you that they will give you the antibiotics that may or may not work. If they don't work, like any other virus you just have to wait it out.

All types are highly contagious. Wash often and try to keep your hands away from your face. I know this is harder said than done as it is insanely itchy and burning! Warm compresses are good, but do not use the same cloth repeatedly. Also, gonna need to change sheets and pillow cases. Do not let family members come in contact with any of this stuff you use as you deal with this.

Though it is probably conjunctivitis, it is still a good idea to get it checked by your doctor as there are many other issues that it could be (allergies, something in your eye, etc)

Hello,

I'm so sorry you're sick! And you can't snuggle with your munchkin. Nothing is worse than being sick and having to keep your distance from your baby.

When I have had pink eye, I called the doctor and they actually called in a perscription to the pharmacy without seeing me. Its so contagious that the office would rather you not come in! Crazy.

If you can barrow money for the prescription I hope your doctor can save you a visit and call it in. Or maybe explain your situation and see if the doctor can offer you a trial size sample for the time being? I have been given other perscriptions to try with a sample first.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry, but with pink eye, you need antibiotics. This is a bacterial infection, I know, I've had it, my daughter had it twice, and my husband had it. It is highly contagious! And you usually have to treat both eyes even if the other is not visibly affected. If you don't get to the doctor A.S.A.P. you will be dealing with a serious infection that could affect your sight. Is it worth it to you? Make the appointment and explain you will not be able to pay right away...the office should be understanding especially if you have a long time "relationship" with this particular doctor.

I can add only this. I have seen it happen where a person had pink eye and sneezed hard. It turned her eyes bloody. I was scared to death. Called an ophalmalogist and she said that's just what happens sometimes. So, if this happens, don't panic. But in the meantime, try to avoid doing anything to cause it. (antihistimines, putting your hand up close to your nose and "smelling" it seems to chase away some sneezes.

Perhaps you could wear those disposable gloves when dealing with things your child touches, etc. (I don't know if a viral form could spread in other ways than expected.)

Have it checked out. Pinkeye (conjunctivitis) can be either bacterial OR viral. Either way, it is passed by not washing hands enough. Do not share towels or washcloths either. Unless it is serious, it will go away on its own in 7-10 days. Nothing 'cures' anything viral, so the drops will only ease symptoms, NOT cause it to 'run its course' any faster. If it is bacterial, the doctor can give you something.

Call your doctor and see if they can see you and wait for payment until you get paid on Monday. Most doctors will honor this if you have been a patient and haven't had any payment issues before. At the very least, see if what you are using is something he feels will work and he can give you tips to minimize spreading it to family members.

Go to the doctor...and get a prescription. My son got it two weeks ago, and it can be diagnosed within about 10 seconds, some doctors will give you a prescription over the phone for Polymyxin, and about 5 minutes later you are golden (highly contagious but takes about 24 hours until you are no longer infectious)...

It costs us a $15 copay, and $9.81 for the medicine. This is also something you can go to one of those clinics at a pharmacy , drug store, or grocery store and get treated in less than 15 minutes...even without insurance I think it is $30 for one of those walk-in clinics.

The only upside is that the strain can only live off a host for a maximum of an hour...so it isn't like you have to disinfect everything you own.

Over the counter meds will not work.

keep your hands and face clean, warm sea salt water compresses help with irritation and stickiness, and the visine red eye stuff works- at least for my cat! but it took about 3 days.

Is there a friend or family member that can loan you $ until payday? You really need the prescription from the doctor. It actually works within 24 hours so that you are no longer contagious. Not sure about OTC drops. Never heard of those.

We use colloidal silver on pink eye. Just put some on a cotton ball and rub it on the outside of your eye. It is so soothing! And, it clears it up in about a day, max. Just keep applying it as you remember to do it. This is the best remedy I have found. Works everytime. You can buy it at most health food stores. I know Whole Foods carries it. I actually buy mine online, but you need it quicker than that.
