I'm looking to get a photo quilt made for my grandmother. Pictures are important to her and she doesn't live near me about 3,000 miles away. It would be a wonderful gift to give her a photo quilt of my boys and I and husband as a christmas gift. I thought about making one, but I don't have a color printer but i can do it in black and white and I don't have a sewing machine either. So it would be more convenient to have it made by someone who knows how do it. But I looked online and there's just too many places to choose from and you cant trust everything these days. So I'm looking out to all you mommy's to see if any of you know of an online site or if you even make them and if you ever had one made.
Thanks.

What can I do next?

E., that's a sweet idea...I guess I'd heard of these but never thought of getting one. Could I make an alternative suggestion? How about a digital photo frame! We've given these to older relatives, all loaded up with pictures from the very latest photos to very old ones, and every one loves them! Even an 8x10 one is pretty reasonable these days, I think the last one we bought was like $80 or 90? You can even load music onto them if you're talented that way!

Walgreens offers all kinds of photo gifts. Not sure if a quilt is one but you could check. I have used Walgreens for calendars, mugs, and mouse pads - all of which included photos and were sent off to be made. I have had no problems with anything I have ordered from them and they also usually offer coupons - especially now at the holiday time of the year. Check www.walgreens.com
and good luck!

If you google 'photo quilt', I'd stick with one of the top 3 that come up, those are usually the most reputable (yes, they pay for the top spots, but they couldn't afford it if people weren't using them and they weren't making money!)

CVS used to have a dedicated service they would use to print photos on things, not sure if you have one near you (and most don't have the photo centers anymore), but you might want to look into that too.

GREAT gift idea, I might have to steal it for our out of town relatives :)

You could contact fabric/craft stores in your area and inquire if there is anyone there that has/can make them. They may be able to put you in touch with someone who can do it right.

Making it yourself is the most economical way to go. Now that said, if you do all the prep work yourself - have the copies made and the fabric pieces ready to go, your local craft/sewing store usually keep phone numbers of local people who can sew for you. (I did it in CA when I lived there). The photo transfers can be ordered through Wal-Mart, CVS etc. I have tried numerous variations of the do it yourself ones and they all suck. They peel after washing. Using fabric from your childrens former clothing it a great idea too. (If you havent donated it to GW already!). I wish we lived closer as I would help you do this for free. Just make sure all the facric is pre-washed before you put the photos on it. Also check out QVC, they sell a product that works in the opposite way and you use regular copy paper and regular ink. Good luck
