Pediatrician Never Checked Baby Out "Down There"

All three of my sons got checked out without me saying a word. My pediatrician also always tells the older ones that the only reason she is aloud to look at him is because his mom is in the room and to never let anyone touch you or look at you without mom or dad...I love her! So your coworker was right to change docs.

Our pediatrician checked my son's privates on each well child visit, from birth. And this practice has lots of different docs, and we've seen many of them, and they all do it.

My cousin has a 2 1/2 year old daughter, and her ped never looked in her diaper until her 2 year visit, only to find at that time that she had a labial adhesion.

I'd definitely say they should be looking, and the parent shouldn't have to suggest it, but that's just my $ .02.

My baby gets checked out down there at every visit... I have never had to ask them to.

Pediatrician's are supposed to check. If mine didn't I would change doctors. I want a thorough doctor who takes the time to make sure my baby is totally healthy.

The Pediatrician should be! Mine always has for my daughter and my sons.

My pediatricians always checked...and I am glad they did...My second son gave a bit of a scare (to me) as it took a while for one of his testicles to descend!

I then checked EVERY diaper change for a while...and when I finally 'found' the 'shy' one...I was cracking up as I wanted to call the doc and let him know...but had no free hand!! lol

My ped always checks my boys

Our pediatrician checks each time. I would ask your ped why they are not doing this each time and see what they say. I have no idea if it should be a concern or not...probably not a big deal.

My daughter has always been checked at every well visit. This is something that should absolutely be done without asking.

You should ask your dr. why he/she is not looking. If you don't like the answer, go to another doctor.

And I think of it as a good thing, because they noticed a labial adhesion on my oldest. (I never had to ask, they always checked on their own)

Yes my ped. always check down there at all well child visits or if you have a complaint that the child is saying their pee pee hurts.It is quick look over make sure there isn't any foul odors discharge or abnormalaties.

I have a girl, my ped checks her urogenital area for every well child visit. No, it should not be something that you should have to ask for, but routine.
For boys it's important to make sure the testicles have descended and for girls to check for labial adhesions - and in general for both sexes to make sure everything is developing properly. This is not a particularly invasive exam, just a quick peak, not much more than a diaper change.

They are supposed to check and feel the hips etc. I would have said something at the exam and if I liked the dr, i would have stayed. But it seems that the doctor that didn't check was lazy!
It takes 5 seconds to do this and complete the physical exam

I don't know if it's regular practice for girls, but my twin boys' pediatrician checked out the genitals at every well baby check-up until the age of two.

There are two different doctors at the office we go to and they have both checked under the diaper on every visit. Our main doctor even checked my oldest at the youngest's appointment because I suspected Morgan had a yeast infection rash!

Honestly, it's something that is very easy for them to and takes like 5seconds so if they're too busy to check that out, then I would worry about other things they may be too busy to do.
