Part time/drop-in/MDO Daycare in Plano/allen Area?

we recently moved here and made the decision to put our 16 month old son in some sort of part time daycare so he can get interaction with other children. he has never been to any type of daycare, my husband and i work opposing schedules so we can take turns watching him & he goes to grandmas often, so it would be a big step (more for me than him, i'm sure) and i'm needing recommendations for good places to check out. i've called a few highly rated daycares, but out of 4 only 1 accepts part time at 16 months and they all have waiting lists until mid next year. so maybe a drop in or mothers day out would be a better idea. i'm just totally at a loss as to what to do since i'm new to the whole daycare thing....help??

What can I do next?

I use Adventure Kids in Plano when I need just an hour or two sporadically; their whole niche is the no-commitment drop-in thing, but it's a "play"-care, not a day-care or MDO. There is an MDO program at the Valley View Christian Church in Carrollton (on Marsh just south of George Bush) that may be able to accomodate your needs and is convenient to Plano. Kids attend Monday through Thursday, 9-2, and ask if they have openings on specific days (my kid only goes Mon-Wed).

Children's Discovery Center has a MDO for children over 12 months. CDC is located at Christ United Methodist church at Parker and Coit.

The Ark Preschool has classes for toddlers over 1 year.

Neither place is a drop in place if that is what you mean by part-time. Although, you can sign up for just a couple days a week.

I live in Allen on the eastside and I am a registered in home daycare. I currently have a part time spot open. I have several children around his age. It will be difficult for him in the beginning since he has never been in daycare. Please check out my website: http://www.kapkasdaycare.com and see if this is a place that you might like to have your child. You may also call me at ###-###-####. Good Luck in your search.

I don't know what age they start at, but Adventure Kids Playcare in Plano is a drop in - no commitment type child care that is great! My daughter is 5 and she gets so excited when I take her there. Check out the website - it just might fit your needs - http://www.adventurekidsplaycare.com - its at Preston and Park in Plano.
Hope this helps - good luck!

Our 2.5 yo daughter attends Prestonwood's Christian Learning Center in Plano. Their program is T/Th from 9 - 2. She loves it and is making friends and learning a lot. They still have openings and take children ages 8 weeks to 4 yo.

I started taking my daughter to S.S. Noah Playcare drop in center. I started with just 2 hours here and there and never when she was tired so that she can get adjusted to someone else being in charge. I don't know of any MDO programs that accept people mid-year, but my daughter goes to Cottonwood Creek for a MDO program Monday and Wednesday and loves it. However, we had to register her back in February. When I did my research, I didn't find that many places that took kids under 2. I had the best luck checking out the area churches and even most of them started at 2.

My son started MDO at Children's Discovery Center at Christ United Methodist in Plano when he was 1. The teachers there are wonderful and will totally ease your mind about leaving him somewhere. It was the first time I had left my son with anyone but family too. He's now 3 and in their preschool program and we still love it. Their website is:
