Pain After Intercourse - Anyone Else Had This??

The last 3 nights after sex I have experienced a horrible pain in the middle of my lower abdomen that lasts about 15 minutes. During sex, it is painful also, my husband thought that he felt something hard one of the times too. We are trying to get pregnant, I took a test last week and it was negative. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a doctors appointment, but it isnt for 3 weeks. I am trying to decide if I should find somewhere else that can get me in earlier so any insight would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

Dear K.,
I am so sorry that is happening to you. I think it would be a very SMART idea to be seen sooner than 3 weeks. I wonder if maybe it could be a tubal pregnancy. Please get into the doctor SOON and good luck!

Agreed. Ovarian cyst. I just had one that wouldn't go away OR rupture. I also had uterine fibroids and endometriosis. I scheduled a hyterectomy and removal of the right ovary. The week prior to surgery, I was having excruciating pain and nausea. When I went in for surgery, my doctor told me the cyst had started to twist the ovary, which is an emergency situation. I had pain during and after intercourse for as long as I could remember. NOT ANYMORE!! Get in and get it checked before it gets as serious as mine did. The pain would radiate into my lower back and inner thigh. A good indication something is wrong.

Hi K., I agree with Bonnie. I am a chronic sufferer of ovarian cysts and endomitriosis. Even the smallest of cysts give me a lot of pain. I know when they rupture as it's really bad pain and it radiates to my back and "exit only" region. ;) Although every one is different, if you feel the pain is too much to bear, go see another doctor. If not, wait and write down as many of the complications you are having. The more you know when you go in, the better your chances of getting an answer. Even things that seem null to you may be important for the doc. Good luck on getting rid of the pain and getting pregnant soon!

Talk to your OBGYN and if they don't seem concerned at all, go to a different one until you get some answers. I have endometriosis but my earliest symptoms were not the most common ones, so several doctors didn't diagnose me properly. I kept searching until I found one who believed that my pain actually was something. I'm so glad also that I didn't wait the 2 months it was going to take to get in to see my regular OBGYN because she was so booked with pregnant patients and didn't see my pelvic pain as a priority. I found a nurse practitioner who could see me within a couple days and she was the first one to recognize the disease. But once you get a diagnosis, research it and the treatment options. After my research, I realized that although that NP was able to diagnose my problem, I didn't agree with the solutions that she and the doctor she worked for offered. I wish you good luck and good pain relief!

I had similar experience when I was trying to get pregnant with my first. I went to the doc (because of trouble getting pregnant & irregular period). It ended up being an ovarian cyst. Totally benign and went away on its own, but still quite painful.

I would see your OB/GYN. Explain the pain. You'll probably get another pelvic exam and possibly an ultra-sound. They'll probably want to determine if it's benign cyst, endometriosis, or something else. But really nothing to freak out over.

I had the same problem .My doctor didn't think it was anything either. I kept telling her I know there is something .So she ordered an ultra sound for me . Sure enough I had a Cyst. So please ask for an ultrasound!

Has the pain been there since you had your son 10 months ago? I had a lot of pain during sex after my daughter was born. I ended up having a bunch of scar tissue that was like a nob inside. I had to get it cauterized off over several weeks. Sex still isn't comfortable (7 months later) but it isn't near as bad. I don't know about the pain in your abdomen though. I have had that happen a few times. But not a lot.
I read in the parenting magazine that there is a condition called interstitial cystitis and that "the pain in the bladder from the condition can also lead to major discomfort during sex"
I know its frustrating because sometimes it seems like you are just paying them for a very expensive guessing game, but I agree with going in sooner to the doctor, especially if you are trying to get pregnant.

You might have an ovarian cyst. I often get them, especially when I am not taking a birth control pill. Sometimes they rupture. It usually isn't serious, but it can be very painful. I actually ended up in the ER one night because of the pain. They just gave me pain meds and sent me home... Talk to your OB/GYN and he or she may want to do an ultrasound to check it out.

These first two ladies know what they are talking about. Go see you doctor; it is probably a cyst.

Call your doc, tell him/her that you are in intense pain, and that you can't wait 3 weeks. Doctors leave appts open everyday for last minute, unexpected situations such as yours--the office should be able to fit you in.

It might be a cyst and it might be something more serious. After nearly dying of PID (Pelvic inflammatory Disease) I don't take these things lightly. If there are no other symptoms- strange discharge with an unusual odor, pain at other times, spotting, frequent urination (bladder infections can sometimes cause pain during intercourse)then you probably have nothing to worry about but I would still get in earlier than 3 weeks. Even benign cysts can rupture and spread poison depending on what type of cyst it is what they told me when I was in the hospital and had one the size of a baseball that fortunately shrank with the help of drugs and they didn't have to remove it. All complications from PID and I'm still having various problems 10 years later. You could see your gyn or an internist or even your general practitioner may be able to help if you have more than one kind of dr.
I also have interstitial cystitis and occasionally have that as a symptom but it's intermittent. More often it's just horrible abdominal pain off and on and frequent urination. It's hard to diagnose because it's often mistaken as IB but if you think you might have it mention it to your dr. It's fairly easy to treat.
I'm not trying to scare you, but something like this can be very serious and it's better to be safe than sorry.
