Ordering Gifts Online

I have recently moved away from my family. I'm very big on birthdays for my neices and nephews, so I have been shipping gifts and spending a mint on shipping (What a waste! I'd rather buy more for the kids!). Does anyone recommend any sites that have free shipping or flat rate on kids stuff? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great ideas. I ended up ordering this time on Amazon and got free shipping for ordering over $25 in product. Every little bit helps. Thanks!!

I do a lot of ordering online and what I usually do if I find something that I want to buy, but don't like the crazy shipping is google to see if there are any discount codes out there for the site. There are lots of sites, blogs, and forums that share discount codes like free shipping, percentage off orders, etc. If you find a product, but don't find a code for the site, then google the product and you can usually find the cheapest price and a good discount someplace. Most of the time, you are not paying tax on items you buy online, so keep that in mind when evaluating whether or not shipping is worth paying.

Amazon also has a program you can sign up for, I think it's called "Prime Shipping" or something with "Prime" in it. You have to pay a one time fee to use it, but after that you can really save a bundle on shipping, especially if you're ordering things often.

I lived away from all my family for a few years...I did all my gift purchasing & shipping on Amazon. Yes you can sign up for Amazon Prime which gives you free two day shipping, but if you are disciplined enough, their Super Saver Shipping is free with purchases over $25. They also offer gift wrapping, but I don't recall what (if anything)that cost. I'm a huge advocate of Amazon, I have had great luck with them, and the few items that didn't work out (defects, etc) I've gotten a full refund. Another neat thing about Amazon is if you find something you like but aren't ready to buy, it will keep it in your cart forever, and if they price changes it will let you know when you go back to your cart, I use this to keep an eye on things like electronics and can snatch them up when the price drops.

Amazon.com has a huge selection of item that qualify for their free super saver shipping. If you choose this option it takes a little longer to get the items but not that much and it saves a lot of money on shipping.

Old Navy has flat rate shipping $7 and if you sign up for their e-mail you get discounts e-mailed to you. I am not sure about toys and stuff. You should, if you haven't already sign up for Upromise. They always have deals for their members, it is free and you save money for college while shopping, I love it, I started my account when my daughter was born and she is almost 4 and has $93.15 in there. It may not seem like much now, but every little bit helps. They have a list of all the online retailers that participate, how much they contribute, and specials that they offer, like free shipping or discounts. Good luck!
