Opportunity for Adult Halloween Party

I had planned ahead to go out this evening to see my husband's band in the city. The evening will cost $45 and includes 3-hour open bar and a buffet.

I tried making my costume and have nothing. I also don't want to spend money to buy one.

So now I don't want to go. I'm very down about unemployment and can't justify the cost, plus public transit. The friend who I was going to go with bailed and I'll know just a few acquaintences.

A part of me might make myself go because we rarely go out--maybe 3 times a year--tops. Then again if I'm not into it why spend the money

What would you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I'm forcing myself to go because like I said we hardly go out. This will be my New Year's!

My oldest wanted to be a cat this year but you could be a mouse too. Just wear black and buy ears and a tail ($5) use black eyeliner to paint on whiskers and a nose. Go and have fun!
I have a black evening gown I wore to a wedding years ago. With that dress I have added accessories to be a witch, a queen, and a black angel.

Sounds like you could use a night out for some fun. When I'm in a pinch for an outfit, I go as a hobo - my Daddy taught me this when I was very little. You just put on the most raggedy clothes you can find, dirty your face - i use dark eye-shadow or if you have a cork, burn the end for a few seconds - it's great for rubbing black on your face like where a beard would be. Slap a hat on and go. And if you have a stick, tie some stuff in a scarf and tie it on the end. Look on the internet for a few pictures for this all to make sense! lol!!

I totally get the unemployment thing - we were on it for a year! It sucks!! But get out there and have some fun - it will lift your spirits!!!

Just go. Sounds like a lot of fun, after a couple of drinks you won't care too much about who you know or don't know.
Buy a costume and then (gasp) return it tomorrow! Say it was too tight or too itchy.

Omg I can feel the holier than thou ones just waiting to pounce!

I'm sure if you go you will have a great time and be happy that you went. 45 for food, entertainment, and an open bar is a great deal even if it's a lot to you right now.

For a costume you could just spend like 5 bucks on some cat ears. Put on liquid eyeliner and wear black. Easy peasy and cheap.

I think you are a little depressed and could really use a fun night out. Dont use the costume thing as an excuse. wear boots raincoat, carry umbrella ., add blue and white streamers and go as Hurricane S.

I'd go and try to have fun - I agree you need a break and maybe a few drinks!

How about going in pajamas with curlers in your hair? You could even borrow that from friends if you don't have stuff! Wear shoes, but change into slippers when you get there. Everyone has bunny slippers or some silly character, and you could stick a few curlers in at odd angles. If you have short hair, it's even better! Carry a stuffed animal so you look like you're ready for night-night. The sillier the better!

There will be some elaborate costumes, and some really lame ones. Don't be intimidated by the fancy ones. And after a few drinks, no one will care! You might meet some new people and of course you will hear good music!

I am having a witches Tea this afternoon.. (No tea, but yes wine).. All we do is encourage people to wear a Witches Hat. Heck. Walgreens has Halloween head bands for a couple of bucks.

Go out, have some fun, you deserve it.

Go, don't listen to your internal Negative Nellie and Debbie Downer.

You are not talking that much money.... Who knows, maybe you will meet someone who knows someone who knows someone and you end up with a job opportunity?

You said you guys don't get out much... BIG problem. Here is an opportunity for you to go be cheerleader for your hubby and let him be proud that his wife is there supporting him.

No need to buy a fancy outfit. Work with what you have, get creative. I like the hobo idea and that can work with anyone.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go support you man tonight! Who knows what positive can come out of you being together! Have fun.

I saw some really cute, easy, super inexpensive adult costumes in the paper this morning. Wear black tights and cover yourself in green or purple balloons and go as a bunch of grapes. Wear a "Hello, My Name Is" label, but with someone else's name. Attach a sign with the words "No Child" to your left buttock; "No Child Left Behind". Paint a cardboard box red and wear that; you are a Red Square (Soviet Bloc). Wear a toga.
Anyway, you need to go out and have a good time once in a while. $45 for dinner and drinks is a great deal.

Personally, I'd stay home. Your husband will be working in the band so he won't have time to dance with you or be with you.

I think you'd have much more fun going out to eat with your husband when he gets back than going and being bored because your husband will be working and your friends decided to stay home.

Good luck to you and yours.

Having been unemployed for ages, getting out among friends is very important. It will be nice to be with your hubby too.

Google "last minute halloween costumes for adults" and see what comes up. There are articles, and click on images - you may get some ideas.

There was one called "Smartie Pants" where you buy a bag of smarties and attach them to your pants. "Iron Chef" was an apron, chef hat, cooking utensil and an iron. "Family Tree" was leaves and family pictures attached.

This site has more. http://www.womansday.com/life/holidays/10-clever-last-min...

I went to a halloween party last night. I just put on an old large white T shirt and wrote "Not A Merry Maid" on front and back. I put the T shirt over a long sleeved shirt, wrapped a wrag around my head and carried a (clean) toilet brush,.

I got a lot of laughs, especially the woman loved the costume and I was so comfortable.
