My SENCOnd baby is one month old. my first is 2 yrs old. my first child was breastfed one year. when she was 5 weeks old her normal frequent yellow mustard like stools decreased from several times a day to once every 7-10 days. She never really was symptomatic from it, normal gassy stuff. Now my second has the same issue. He is 5 weeks and his last b.m. was saturday (2 days ago) . he is peeing 6-10 times a day. he does have a lot of gas. at his one month apt. my pediatrician told me once every week
is fine. anyone have this experience?

What can I do next?

That is really very common, especially among breastfed babies.

Just think of it this way...... bowel movements are one way the body gets rid of fiber the body can't digest.

By breastfeeding, you are giving your baby the food that was intended... very little fiber or undigestible matter you might find in formula. Mother nature created this perfect food for those immature bodies to handle.

Keep it up!

Yes, it is really common. Breastmilk is specifically tailor made to fit what your infant/toddler/child needs at that point in time - so it is highly digestible and absorbed... which means very little solid waste. As long as his stools continue to be loosely formed (not liquidy and definitely not hard) then things are fine. Gas can be from a fast let down, too much foremilk (I hope you are nursing from one breast only with each nursing session then switching only for the next one), or possibly his body doesn't like something YOU are ingesting. Top culprits to Mom's diet is: too much commercially processed dairy, gluten, caffeine in large amounts, eggs/broccoli - gassy foods.

Yup. Normal.
Gripe water and/or Hyland's Colic Tablets help gas.

Nope, though I know it is normal. All of my Exclusively breast fed kiss continued to poop many times a day ... Even my toddler and preK kid still continue to go at least once a day...let's just call our systems effecient :)

Totally normal-- they can go up to 2 weeks between BM's. As long as they're not acting painful no need to worry. My son would go about once a week. Be warned though-- when they finally go, they GO. I swear my son just saved it up and waited until he had a new outfit on AND we we're late getting out the door-- that combination of events seemed to have a magical (and explosive!) laxative effect on him!
