OK, I have an 8 1/2 month old who used to be a great napper. Now when I put him in for his morning nap, he wakes up 15 min. later crying, Now he isn't a cryer to begin with, but when I tell you he crys, he crys!! I have tried going in and rocking him, I have tried letting him cry it out. no such luck. So I figured OK not so tired. By later in the afternoon 4:00, I figure good he is good and tired now, like usual, I give him a bottle and off to nap land he goes. Well now for the past couple days, same thing. He'll sleep for about 1/2 hour then wakes up crying!! Could it be his teeth?? maybe. should I give him Tylenol before his naps?? I am not big on that. My question is when do they give up their morning nap? SHould I try and keep him up then give him a nap in the early afternoon? Ugh

Hi There,
Most babies don't give up 2 naps until atleast 12 mos. It sounds like teethe or could be and ear infection. They hurt more when lying down. Try giving him Tyelenol before his nap and see how it goes. Tyelenol won't hurt him! If he has other symptoms ie. fever, loss of appetite, check with a pediatrician.

Hey jod! Don't give him tylenol. But maybe he needs a little rocking before he lies down, ya know? I feel for ya. Remember Meg wouldn't nap either. But Becca did. Good luck!

It could be timing. If cerying by afternoon then overtired bc didn't have sufficient first nap. Try a 10am nap...

Also what time is baby waking up. 3 hrs later is a good morning nap time. My son sometimes misses first nap but then has a short nap n afternoon bc too tired so I give him earlier bedtime.

Could be teething if u see other symptoms (drool, excessive sucking on toy rfinger). Or what are your baby's sleep cues-how does he sigbal that he's tired. Scratch head, glassy eyes?

Definitely could be teething. I would recommend going to only one nap a day instead of two but making certain your little one is exhausted. For the gums, Baby Orajel or Baby Anbesol work very nicely. Hope this helps.

Hi J.,
How long has this been occurring? Could it be his ears? Perhaps the pressure..does he do this at all at night? It may be the teeth, my son had a horrible time with teething. I would use tylenol on occasion yet I would also wet a corner of a clean washcloth and put it in the freezer for him to chew on. Also ice pops worked for him.

I think every child is different in regard to when they loose the morning naps...my son stopped very early. I would ask the ped next time about teething or ear issues. Good luck!
