Night Time Care

Hi, Mamas! I am a home daycare provider, and I was thinking of switching to night time care. I would only do nights so that I could be at home with just my two girls during the day. I realize that this pays less than daytime care, and I'm okay with that. Do any of you home providers do this? I don't really know where to start or if it's even a good idea. I would only have the 5 and under set (and only after they're sleeping through the night), so no worries about boys vs girls, etc. I have space to sleep the kids and everything, just don't really know what I'm doing yet. LOL Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Nurses do NOT flock to us and the overnights don't really work. 5 to Midnight or 1 or 2. Maybe 7 to 3am. But people that work 7p-7a do NOT want to pay full prices. Trust me when I say they feel they deserve a huge break because they "sleep". Also, nurses are by and large tight-wads. So many of them have come to me through the years wanting 7am to 7pm 3 days per week, yet they think they should be able to pay the same daily rate as moms only needing 8 hours and they want to NOT pay for the 2 days they don't use, even though they themselves are getting paid full-time.

You want to work for servers, bartenders, and factory workers. Police officers can be okay but they are cheap too.

A) It doesn't pay less really. I charge the same for nights.

B) It SEEMS like it pays less because I have a hard time staying full. Too many parents whine and fuss and complain until mom or sister does daycare for awhile. I end up getting offered leftovers. They want me to stay on call but only use me once and awhile when grandma doesn't want to do it.

So if you are able to get by financially until you get the kids GO FOR IT! I love nights. I don't do baths for them. I tell them the truth. With a family of 6 of my own (4 adults and 2 children) our showers are full. I don't take them outside often at night. We go out when I feel like it. I do provide learning activities electronics and computer. But we watch more tv. I don't owe the night-time children a full fledged curriculum. Nights are much easier. Also, they usually eat only twice instead of 3-4 times. So the expenses are a bit less for nights.

Do you understand the space x time calculations for tax purposes? You really should keep at least 1 or two others during the day. You'll still be able to enjoy your children better and you'll be able to wright off 90-95% of your utilities and other household repairs, paint etc.

You kidding? Many parents who are Nurses or need to work the overnight shift would FLOCK to you!! And you can charge just as much overnight as you can for daytime hours.

Lots of kids under 5 don't sleep through the night. At least not consistently. Add that to being in a strangers house and I'm pretty sure they would be up alot.

Plus, a lot of night shifts either start late or end early. You really want kids being dropped off at 10pm? Picked up at 5am or 7am?

My experience with night time care is that it is more expensive. The going rate here per night is 75 dollars.
