Looking at buying new windows for my house. I've been doing lots of research but I would love to hear from the mom's. Any personal experience or referrals would be great.

What can I do next?

Hello

I work for a family owned lumber yard, home center, in Rochester - we've been around since 1910. We'd love to help you.

I'll sent you a message.

We went with the ?double pane? energy efficient windows for the bedrooms and such but I am currently saving up to replace my huge front windows and my back slider the kind with the built-in blinds!

We used Andersen Replacement Windows. More pricey but SO worth it. We just did the kid's room as we back to a street and noise as well as insulation was important... they are awesome!!! Check the internet for discounts.

Yes, on the Andersen windows!!
We have their terrific double paned windows that have the nitrogen and the some other gas in between the layers. It helps tremendously with the energy efficiency. This past winter was our second winter with them, and it was cold for TX. Our energy bills were much much lower than all our neighbors who still have their original windows.

I love them!

We love our Wallside windows. The few problems we had over the years were fixed free in a timely fashion. Support this Michigan company if you can. If you know someone who has them and you give the sales guy their name, they'll get $100 and you can do the same down the road. These windows are perfect and reasonably priced and you don't have to sit thru a long sales pitch like Hansons makes you do. We refused to buy unless they skipped that and they wouldn't sell us windows under those circumstances.

We went with Wallside - they don't give you a sales speal which was refreshing and they did what they said they would, when they said they would do it. The windows look great - we put in a couple of bay windows and a garden window in addition to the regular double hungs. The downside... after about 4 years some of hte windows began to fog/get condensation inside - Wallside came out and repaired/replaced them all for free (it's just a pain that it needed to be done).

Hanson's I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. I had them quote me windows when I was single and, in addition to the sales pitch, the salesman called me back a week or so later demanding to know why I hadn't given him the order yet. A few years later I called them to get a siding quote - the same guy came out, took measurements and refused to give me an estimate without my husband present - apparently it is their policy to only quote to both spouses at the same time so you can't use the excuse that 'I have to talk to my spouse' - they want an answer and commitment immediately.

Good luck

I use to work for Milgard Windows. They are great high-end vinyl double pane windows. You will pay more for them. I do think that most of the windows these days are all going to be pretty good. One thing to look for is the locking mechanism. Milgards automatically lock when the window shuts. It is a nice feature, my current windows you have to slam it shut then mess with the little lock.

We had sales people come from Anderson Windows, Sears, Wallside and Hansons. No one could tell us why there's was better then Wallside. Everything they said, Wallside had, at a fraction of the price. Plus the glass, and the window itself is all made in Michigan.

We bought the double hung, double tilt in windows, has the gas inbetween. Love them. The year we had them installed, the gas prices had gone up and I went from working and turning the heat down during the day, to keeping the house heated warm enough for a newborn, and being at home all day...and our gas bill stayed the same. so if all factors would have been the same, the bill would have went way down. They have held up nice too. We've since moved, and our new house does not have double hung double tilt in windows. Now I'm not huge on washing windows, but I need the option for when they get just nasty. Who wants to hire someone to clean 2nd floor windows on the outside. The people who built this new house were just clueless or cheap.

I'm not in your area so I'm sure the co. we used is not relevant but the sound barrier factor is huge. I wish our windows stopped more sound--and we're in a residential area & I can hear the thump-thump-thump of the bass if a car has loud volume, as cars go by. So look into that for sure!

We went with D&W Windows in Davison. I went in and was helped by the service manager Tom. He sat down and answered each and every question I had in detail with me. He ended up ordering six windows from them. Each member of the staff that I encountered was very helpful and personalable to me as a a customer. We got double hung, engery efficient, argon glass and foam filled frames. Best of luck to you L..
