Last night my girlfriend and I went to see The Descendants...it was much deeper than I thought. I don't think it's one I would own. Nor do I think I would say "yeah - I'll see that again." It was VERY well written and the acting was good. But....ahhh that "but"...it didn't "do" much for me. Does that make sense?

My boys went to watch The Adventures of Tin-Tin...they LOVED LOVED LOVED it.

Are there any movies out that you would recommend?

I am thinking to use my free ticket to go see Sherlock Holmes - I liked the first one...anyone that has seen it?
Mission Impossible - too close on the action like the GI Joe movie from 2011 was? I didn't like the filming of GI Joe because the camera was sooooo freaking close that I got dizzy trying to watch it. URGH!!!

So recommendations anyone?

ETA: My parents saw War Horse the day before he went into his coma - they LOVED it!!! They did NOT tell me how it ended though!!

What can I do next?

I saw Sherlock Holmes last week. I fell asleep in the middle of it. Partly because I had only gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before and partly because it was slow in some parts. If GI Joe made you dizzy, Sherlock probably will too. There are a lot of jerky camera movements through the fight scenes. Sherlock for me was a one time thing. I'm not going to go buy it or see it again, but it was a decent movie.

I'm going to go see Mission Impossible, Abduction, and Real Steel this week. Probably Breaking Dawn again too. I wish some more movies were out. My son is still with my parents so I have to do most of my movie going for the year this week!

I actually fell asleep in the middle of the first Sherlock Holmes, but enjoyed this one. It wasn't one of the greats, but it was entertaining.

Next on my list are "War Horse," "The Iron Lady," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," "Mission Impossible" - and I have to say, "The Artist" really has my interest. I am a big Academy Awards buff, so I will probably see it. I enjoyed "The Descendants" but not as much as I enjoyed "Sideways" from the same guy a few years ago. I did love the acting and the quirky (yet very realistic) parts of it.

My husband and I had a moment during "The Descendants" when they were at Tahiti Nui. We made that place our second home several years ago when visiting Kauai, and we recognized so many regulars! We loved them and they loved us -we came home with signed Tahiti Nui prints, t-shirts, cds, etc. and I cannot wait to return!

What a great post. We should share reviews more often.
We have only seen War Horse and loved it!
Awhile ago, we saw J. Edgar and it was very good. With well known stars like Leonardo, though, it is hard to forget who you are watching. That's one thing I liked about War Horse--not recognizing the actors, save a couple. One thing I didn't like is that the Germans and French were always speaking English!

How old are the kids who loved Tin Tin? I'm wondering if my 12 year old will like it. His grandparents are interested in taking him.

We saw Sherlock Holmes with our 12 and 15 year olds. It is very violent. The 12 year old loved it, but it caused a relapse in symptoms of his concussion after he had been symptom-free for several days. I enjoyed it, but I found it a little strange in parts and quite violent.

My brother and his wife loved Mission Impossible. It is also a lot of action. They visited Dubai recently to visit relatives and the movie is set and filmed in Dubai so that was a huge added perk for them. They said Tom Cruise is amazing.

Sherlock Holmes!!! I didn't know what was going on half the time, but that didn't matter -- the movie is a visual feast, and I don't just mean the adorable Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Guy Ritchie's direction is amazing.

We go to the movies practically every weekend. We took the kids to see Alvin and the Chipmonks. They liked it, we thought it was stupid. We saw War Horse. It was 2 hours and 41 minutes. WAY too long and not necessary. We thought it was good, not great, kind of slow. Saw Tin Tin too, it was basically shooting, drinking, smoking and fighting. Kind of predictable. We saw The Darkest Hour. I liked it, again, good, not great. We did like Mission Impossible, it has a lot of action. I can't remember what else we've seen lately. =)
