The Minnesota Zoo has giant tables in front of the monkey windows that you can rent out for birthdays. I have no idea how much it costs or if you have to pay admission or what, but I know they do pizza, and the kids LOVE watching the monkeys while they eat.

You might want to try Como Park and or Zoo, I don't know if they rent their shelter houses or if you can just go claim one, but that's a place to try. The Zoo there (which is free) might also have something similar to the Minnesota Zoo.

Inviting 20 kids anywhere is gonna cost big bucks. I'd say your cheapest last minute party would work best at Chuckie Cheese or in your home. They say to invite as many friends as the child's age so your very very brave to invite that many.

We just had DD's birthday party at the MN zoo - it's 7.00 per adult, + 5.00 per car for parking. But kids under 3 are free! We ordered a bunch of pizzas.

The only downside is that for the timeframe you're discussing, you'd be hitting their very popular Farm babies exhibit, so crowds may be an issue.

I also had checked into Mill City Museum last year but don't recall price. I also had a party for DD at Chuck E Cheese last year and it worked really well.

You could try Eagle's Nest indoor playground or Adventure Park in Ham Lake. They are like huge playlands....kids run around and get all there energy out. Both have websites that you can check out for bday parties. I am having my son's 3rd bday party at Adventure Park on April 1st. It is $5.50/kid for admission. Then add food and snacks as you wish.

I'm not sure where you are located but try My-Gym (my-gym.com). We have been to a few birthday parties and they cater perfectly to this age group. Some firestations will also do them I think for a donation?? It might be worth considering a partyafter 4p.m when all naps are over.

A friend of mine had a train party for her little boy! They started at the station by Caps BBQ by Hwy 55, road the train downtown and back to Caps for lunch. I think they had little conductor hats and train whistles for the ride :) I guess the LRT was great about it! The conductor gave the kids a quick tour of the control room and let them blow the horn! I think the train is only a buck or so a peice. Would take some planning--but really fun and original!

My son's still an infant, so I've never personally tried this, but the Maple Grove community center has an indoor playground that I think can be rented for parties, and Edina also has an indoor playground. Maybe either of those could be helpful.

Here are a few ideas (depending on where you live):

Choo Choo Bob's in St. Paul on Marshal Ave. - has a backroom and train tables.
The MN Transportation Museum - have your party in a historic train car - Thomas Themed
The Roseville Nature Center on Dale Ave - has a fun party nature themed
