Neurologist Recommendations for Child

I took my daughter to see one of the drs you all recommended (Jeffrey McKenna) I found him to be very personable, interested in his patient, and in no hurry to rush to the next in line. Definitely would recommend him too. In fact, I made an appt for my husband to see him too.

So, my request. I am hoping for more recommendations for a Neurologist. That is our next step and I want to be sure to get someone with referrals.

My daughter is having a strang little facial expression, sort of holding breath then taking deep breath. Happens any time. Don't think it is behavioral. We are working on ruling out breathing issues, adenoids. Could be neurological, super small seizures or ? Not sure what type of neurologist I should be looking for. Didn't realize there were sub-specialties in neurology.

Thanks so much girls! (and guys) :D

So What Happened?

Ginny - Your pediatrician isn't Kelly England is she? That is my pediatrician and she recommended Laura Sweetman. I've had bad referrals from her before though so I like to search out my own referrals in addition to hers.

I will made an appt with dr sweetman but it isn't until Aug 27! I sure would love to hear how your appointment goes.

Thanks!

My daughter has seen at least 2 neuro's at every major hospital in the Valley! I have been less than pleased with most! At PCH we stuck the longest with Dr. Bernes but he is very scattered but very smart. Our top of the list choice is Dr. Bodensteiner at St. Joes/BNI. I chat with many special needs families and always hear the best feedback from neuros at St. Joes! While PCH is best for most ped issues, BNI tops the neuro!

Hi - i'm not sure what type of neurologist you are seeking but we went to Dr. Kerrigan with Child Neurology out of St. Joe's/Barrows. He is an epilepsy specialist and we LOVE him. We also saw Dr. Kara Lewis when our daughter was in the hospital (same practice) and she was also amazing. Our daughter ended up having surgery and we were blessed enough to have Dr. Rekate perform both surgeries.

We started with Dr. Kaplan at Children's - he's nice enough, but way too busy and way to scattered for me. Not when you are talking about my daughter's health. And we always waited hours past our appt time to see him!

Hope this helps! Best of luck -and if you ever need to talk - let me know. Having a child with a brain tumor, seizures and eventually surgery....we have been thru it all! Thank God, she has made an amazing recovery!
