Need Vacation Recommendations
Hey moms! Does anybody know of a CHEAP place that youʼd recommend for a little vacation? With everything thatʼs been going on in our lives lately, hubby and I really need to get away (w/o kiddos), but canʼt spend too much! We were originally thinking of using some airline miles and trying to go to a warm beach (which is definitely our ideal spot!) but we just donʼt know if we can swing that. We do not have passports and since the cost of that would be $200 for both of us, that kind of limits us on going to Mexico when you're paying that much just to get out of the country. Another thought it just to go to San Antonio. Anybody have any ideas of somewhere we should go? Weʼre thinking of going the weekend after New Yearʼs if that makes a difference in anybodyʼs recommendation. Also, has anybody used any of those online booking sites for cheap hotels that you'd recommend? Thanks everybody!

How about New Orleans or Savannah ? They are both so charming.

About the cheapest you are going to find in Texas is Corpus Christi, but it's probably fairly chilly there. If you have the money to go to Florida, I know people who have been swimming on Christmas Day there before. Without passports, I don't know many other places to recommend that are cheap. Mexico is one of the best bargains out there. One other thought, you might enjoy the Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi area. There's beautiful homes, gambling boats, bed and breakfasts. You could drive there in a day or so. If you can't do warm, consider taking a vacation at home. Book a cheap hotel in your city, turn off your cell phones, don't read email, and go see the sights in town you've never seen. We've done that before and it's a blast! Go see Holiday in the Park at 6 Flags, the CR Smith Museum at American Airlines (free), drink hot chocolate from STarbucks downtown Fort Worth while taking pics of the giant Christmas tree in Sundance Square. Go camping at Joe Pool Lake and snuggle under a heated blanket (there's electricity to each campsite). Get creative and you will find something wonderful. My hubby and I went to Jefferson, Texas one time. We spent the weekend at a B&B, then shopping in antique stores, and eating at little mom and pop places. It was nice and relaxing. We've done the same thing in Stephenville, Hillsboro, Glen Rose and Granbury. Good luck! Joyfully, B. P.

If you want the beach what about Tampa Florida? Or Seagrove Florida? Both very nice.
Jefferson, TX like the other poster mentioned is very nice.
A B&B is always a good idea because you usually get breakfast. Sometimes appetizers at night. But B&B's are very personal, and reflect the owner's personality. I know my parents own two of them in Eureka Calif. (which is cold by the way but beautiful) check it out www.dalyinn.com
Corpus Christi is very nice too, but if you're going to fly (and I would fly to Corpus because it's a 9 hour drive) you might as well fly to Florida. I really liked Seagrove. We stayed with the kids in a 2 bedroom condo. It was very relaxing.
Have fun!
