Need Urgent Advice for the Face/body Cream During Pregnancy

Hello,

I am 2 weeks pregnant and have a lot of rash pimples now. They are not really huge but it is kind of big rash around my face and neck. That is really annoying! In the past years, I used the Johnson baby soap to clean my face and used only 1 night cream prescribed by the dermatologist (unrecalled name). During the days, I used Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 cream (the first type in the market), Johnson baby face powder, MAC brush on, Shine SPF15 face powder with foundation. My face was radiant, smooth and no pimples even though I used all those products together for 5 years.

Later, I went to see the dermatologist as my face had got a lot of rash pimples lately. He told me to stop using all current creams/cleanser/make-up. I followed his instruction for 3 months but did not look better, and I have had more pimples since that!! Later, I tried to mix/match that I thought the pimples I got might be from the creams from the dermatologist's prescription (unrecalled names). Then, I did not use anything on my face for a month-- only clean my face with baby soap daily and baby face powder and brush on (same brands above) like twice a week. My face has become drier and more rash pimples. It looks really ugly and I feel unconfident when I am out or sometimes I do not use anything at all (you know when you do not make up, how your face will be!).

Later, I left my face freely without any creams/cleansers but still use baby face powder/soap and make-up mentioned above twice a week, including I changed to use the new Olay products of which are Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation 7-in-1 face cream and New Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Revitalising Cream Cleanser (make up only twice a week). I had been using those for 3 weeks and my face became more white but all rash pimples are still around the same areas and even more! Currently, I stopped using all those two Olay products due to Salicylic Acid/Retinol ingredients. After doing some research, I stopped them all today as I know that my products can cause the baby's growth, miscarriage or birth defects, I feel really unconfident when I am out and my face looks ugly and drier with rash pimples around my face and neck as I have ever had before. Could you please advise if anyone here has ever used that type of products during pregnancy and nothing wrong on the baby before?

To avoid these (if I do not use any), I am not too sure if I still go on with any products such as the products for pregnancy or any organics or natural ways to cure this problem? could you please recommend any safe and great products on my face while pregnant? It would be great if you could suggest some body products that are apart from palmer (smelly!)

I appreciate all your replies.

What can I do next?

I had the same problem only my rash covered my entire body. I believe I was about 8 weeks along at that point. My doctor had me switch to Dove products and cut out everything else. I even switched my antiperspirant. It was only after I made that switch that the rash went away. I used them throughout my pregnancy and while I was breastfeeding.

Good luck!

First, honestly, you can't really be two weeks pregnant...the two week point is ovulation, so you could be ovulating then, but you won't know if you are pregnant for another two weeks.

If you do get pregnant this month, Cetaphil is fine for pregnancy. You can also put a little toothpaste on pimples at night and that sort of dries them up.

Good luck.

I honestly don't know if I can help you cure your acne, but I use wonderful products for my face and body. I have really nice skin and I have very sensitive skin. You can read the label on the website to check ingredients. This is a natural company and I have an independent distributorship. Take a peek and see what you think. If it looks interesting and you have specific questions email me or call the number on the website and I will try to answer your questions. All are paraben free. http://healinghappens.myshaklee.com/us/en/category.php?ma...

Whatever you decide to try, it couldn't hurt to run the label by your OB-GYN for any red flags.

You can use Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid during your pregnancy.

That said, your acne is probably due to hormones, and very likely nothing you do will improve it. I had TERRIBLE cystic acne with my first pregnancy. (never had a skin problem before it) I tried every product, every combination on the market that I could get away with. Nothing made a dent. Not even a little. It didn't improve until I went back on the pill 8 weeks after birth.

It's incredibly frustrating and you feel so unattractive. I know. You can drive yourself crazy with trying things, but unfortunately, nothing will really work. It's hormonal, not bacterial.

I used (and still do) the acne products from Mario Badescu. I found those, of all of them, to heal big breakouts the most quickly. They never kept the away, but they got rid of them faster than other approaches.

Sorry to bear the bad news. :(

I think you can use benzoyl peroxide products when pregnant and salicylic acid when nursing, google it! Then get something from origins, clean and clear, oxy, etc with the bp in it. Try switching to bare minerals powder, and cetaphil cleanser. I broke out when pregnant too, it's all those wacky hormones. Hang in there!

go natural.

cut out dairy and sugar from your diet, limit meat and use this soap twice a day: Essential Formulas - Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic Kampuku Soap and this cream once, in the evening: Propolis Derma Cream or Royal Jelly Balm Plus

I have used it for years.

I have one word - Cetaphil! When I was pregnant my skin went through major changes. Cetaphil was the only thing that worked to cleanse without drying or irritating. I switched to Mario Badescu face creams also as they have no scents. Everything you are using has scents and dyes in it - I would suggest staying away from anything like that.

Also - get some good concealer and cover the spots that bother you. Your skin may continue to get more uneven looking as the color around your eyes changes. If you are feeling self conscious, it's better to cover it up when you go out than to try a bunch of products that will not have the effect you are looking for. Your skin is under the control of your hormones now, no drugstore product can change that. I used to get self conscious about the dark circles under my eyes, but I started to use concealer to cover them when I went to work and it made me feel better. Now that I've had my baby, the discoloration has gone away. You can rest assured knowing that these changes are due to changes in your body and are temporary.

Hi,

Alot of personal care products have parabens, phthalates, and other chemicals that can really irritate our skin. I highly suggest Enfuselle by Shaklee. Shaklee is the #1 natural nutrition company in the U.S. and they have a trusted reputation for safety, quality, and efficacy. In all of their 54yrs of business, they've never had a product recall or FDA investigation. They do over 80,000 quality control tests per year and 349 contamination tests on each new raw ingredient. They also retest all of their ingredients upon delivery from the wholesaler.

Enfuselle is nutrient-based so it's like putting vitamins on your skin. It has 7 patents, pH balanced, hypoallergenic, not tested on animals, and contains no: parabens, artificial dyes or colors, propylene glycol, animal products or by-products, mineral oil, petrolatum, SLS, phthalates, or 1,4-dioxane (nothing bad to seep into your body or baby's.) Shaklee has amazing clinical studies on how Enfuselle can change your skin for the better in just 28 days. I have acne-prone and sensitive skin and I absolutely love this line. It's feel really good on your skin. You can check it out at www.greennutrition.info or register to win $200 of free products at www.freegreenproducts.info. Let me know if you have any questions.

Try RAW shea butter. You can get it from the beauty supply in the Carson mall (Avalon Blvd.). No perfumes, but is a bit heavy. Put on at night. Must rub into your hands until clear then apply. It is a miracle for all kind of skin issues.

Black soap is good to use for cleansing. There is a website call NUBIAN HERITAGE that has all kinds of soaps and they also have a really nice shea butter.

web address is

i've had 2 kids and horrible skin issues with each. My skin was PERFECT before i got pregnant - I might have had a pimple - and I mean ONE - during my monthly cycle in high school. Do not use any Salicylic Acid/Retinol - ti will only irritate your now sensitive skin.
Stop spending money on all of those products - which is probably 100 per month - I know those tiny bottles are pricey.
Go get an express facial ($60 bucks here in CA) from a person who does maternity every other week.
Stop wearing so much makeup that clogs your pores in the summer.
Try a tinted moisturizer and some mascara and lip gloss - and quit worrying so much about appearances. you probably look wonderful.
if you MUST have products - get a sensitive skin line here:

I had horrible acne during my recent pregnancy and had the same dilemma. I heard about nutrogena, which typically never worked for me in the past. So, I used the nuetrogena acne stress face wash (with microbeads - the fash wash is green in an orange and white tube). It worked wonders. My son is now 5 months and I am still using it because it worked so well and soooo much cheaper than my expensive face washes. I stuck with my normal face cream though (reclaim with spf).

You actually should not use salicylic acid when pregnant. Benzol peroxide is OK.
BUT... It sounds like what you have is some serious irritation, not acne. You should try out something for sensitive skin. Pregnancy hormones tend to mess with our skin big time, and many people have a hard time adjusting their skin care to it. For me, I seem to get dry and more sensitive during pregnancy and during the winter. So I have to change what I use depending on that and time of year. I began using Mary Kay a few years ago. Its been great for me. I went with the dry skin formula for the wash and moisturizer unless I'm pregnant or its summertime. Depending on how my skin is handling things, I adjust accordingly. With my first pregnancy I continued using it and had to add more moisture. For my second I used the oily skin formula cleanser with the dry skin moisturizer and I was OK.
I used to get so many pimples and then eventually the small bumps like you mentioned and once I figured out that my bumps were more irritation than acne I began to have amazingly clear skin. No wonder products like Proactiv didn't work for me!

When I was pregnant, Mary Kay really helped my skin.

Part of what may be worsening your skin problem is that you use products from different brands. When you mix brands together you can actually cause your skin more harm than good. Products within a line are all formulated to work together, so mixing formulas is bad for your skin. My skin was always broken out in pimples, so I used different products to help it. Well, once I started using just Mary Kay morning and night, my skin cleared up and looked healthy again. So, whatever product line you choose, use only products from that line.

Sensaria Natural Bodycare, unlike most of the products that have been mentioned, is a natural based skin care line that you can even and should use on your precious newborn. The face products is what got me into them, getting rid of my 30+ years of acne and the body products for my daughter for her severe eczema and allergies.

There is a one-year guarantee as well. No petroleum. No sodium laurel sulfates. No dyes. No gluten or casein in 95% of the products (this is important for those with allergies).

I offer a first time customer discount as well!

All I can suggest is using FRAGRANCE FREE products such as Burts Bees or Aveno maybe. If you're near a Sephora store, go there & get a consult on some totally natural products. Make sure they know your pg.

Hope you find something that helps.

Most products that deal with acne aren't healthy for skin. All they do is dry the skin up to keep the oil from creating acne. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to drink a LOT of water. Also, you may want to watch what you are eating. In my experience, excessive dairy products brought about acne in me. So, try eliminating certain foods from your diet for a few days and see what works.

I have had skin problems all my life and especially during pregnancy. I have just started using John Masters Organics (available at Whole Foods) and am very happy. I also have used Zum soap and Mountain Ocean products and been happy with those. The products smell good, but many are also certified organicand have simple ingredient lists, so there are less scary ingredients to worry about. Whole Foods and Pharmaca both carry a lot of natural skin products, and have staff on hand to help you pick out products.

Your skin may be suffering because of the hormones - mine went to pot with my first pregnancy. The key is really to keep it simple. I use Cetaphil cleanser (available at Costco) at all times, and it is a very gentle cleanser that most dermatologists recommend for all skin types. Then I use a Vitamin C serum from Avalon Organics (you can get at Henry's) which is a natural way to get some radiance and smoothness. I always use a facial moisturizer with SPF 15 or up - Cetaphil has one, but I use one from Garnier Fructis that is SPF 28 and is working well.

For body, Cetaphil makes a nice body cream that has no scent, but I use stuff from Body Shop with no issue.

For make-up, I use BareMinerals and Prescriptives for foundation and powder.

i recently had random skin issues although I am not pregnant. I have used the clinique 3 step skin care system for years. I started using cold water to wash my face with that system and have been radient since. I don't even wear foundation! Maybe try with cold water whatever you are doing. It may take a week to really see something but is worth a shot. Good luck. I hate not feeling presentable and being preggo on top of that is 10 times worse.
