You can get great deals on line now with Orbitz and other travel websites. For hotels, find one you like, but call before you make reservations on line. I just recently save $25/night b/c I called the hotel directly rather than book online.

Also, a lot of these websites offer packages, so if you are buying hotel and plane then you might find a good deal that way.

We travel often for business and pleasure and I never use an agent or online discount service. You can do it yourself if you know where to look and explore.

First of all, I work directly with the websites of American and Southwest. I get emails from the regularly of upcoming deals and fare discounts. I work with the websites of Hilton and Marriott as well. Many times, they have special packages on their website.

Example....I just booked a trip myself to Sandestin with air and hotel. Out of curiosity...I checked the same deal with Expedia. My deal was better PLUS I get my points for air travel and hotel stay.

I will say....we are planning a trip to tour Italy within the next 2 years and I will be seeking advice on that one to make sure I don't miss anything. I will manage the airfare, I will look for guidance with the specific places we want to visit.

As for NYC...when daughter and I went for a mom/daughter weekend, we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. AMAZING place!! At least go through it. The conceirge there took care of everything for us. We did have our broadway tickets prepaid. We used the double decker bus as our mode of transportation if we couldn't walk somewhere. We are big walkers but sometimes it was necessary to take the bus. We did have reservations in advance for Tavern on the Green. As for Central Park, we walked up to a carriage ride and enjoyed walking through Times Square and the works.
