dear mamas

I am giving away my travel system to mommy who really needs it. The only prob is, it has taken a beating not the car seat and stroller but the material. I have tried to wash it and it looks better but not great. I know she will use it no matter what because she really needs it but I dont want to give it to her like that. My question is has anyone ever covered a stroller/car seat? or done any covering with material at all, so as to get some tips. Any ideas would be sooooo helpful.
Ty in advance, God BLess........................................................

I bought a stroller pad when my baby was born just to make the stroller more comfortable. It was basically a flat, rectangular pad the length and width of the stroller interior, with ties in the upper corners and slots for the seat belts to fit through. The padding was about 1/2 inch thick foam. I think I could have made one myself. I paid about $20 for it, so not worth it to me to try, but I liked using it because it kept my stroller very clean, especially when there were potty accidents. If you know how to sew, you could probably make one and it would be a really nice gift. There are websites where you could buy one or look at for ideas to make yourself. However, I agree with the other moms that you should try and get new covers for the carseat from the manufacturer or ebay. Good luck!

O.,

Go to the manufacturers website and order new ones. They are very reasonable and usually ship pretty quick. You'll have a nearly new looking set to pass on to your friend and you will not compromise the integrity of the factory safety components. You are sweet to pass it on.

I just went to a car seat safety session with a Harris County Deputy and he said that anythig not original to the car seat was considerd DANGEROUS because they are post factory and not part of the crash test system they use with the car seats. At lot of insurance companies won't cover injuries sustained in a wreck if suchj items are used. My friend has tons of luck getting things like car seat covers looking brand new by using oxy-clean. You could do that and then wash in dreft if you want to feel safer. I think you are awesome for gernerously giving your travel system to your friend. You are a gem! God Bless!!!

Tell her you washed it and give it to her. She won't care about the condition of the material. God bless you.

You need some great products that won't harm the fabric and ruin the fire protection.

I shop with Melaleuca.com and have gotten ink out of suede loveseat. These products don't contain any harmful or dangerous chemicals.

Good luck.

Be careful... the materials are fire resistant and washing them will lose that protection. The less you wash them the better (I know it sounds dirty). Follow the washing instructions from the manufacturer and live with the stains. I'm sure she can deal with stains for the right price. ;)

Check out eBay...people make and sell custom covers for car seats. Not sure if you can find your model on there, but worth a shot!

If you contact the manufacturer, you can ususally order replacement covers by giving them the make, model and year of the item you need covers for. If they don't have that exact cover available, they can usually give you one from a newer model that will fit fine. I have a single, double and a triple stroller and have ordered replacement items many times. hth

You are such a nice and thoughtful person, your friend is lucky to have you. Some companies have replacement parts such as seat covers. Get in touch with the company and see if you can purchase one, or explain the situation and ask if they will just send you one...you never know! Good luck, God bless.

At a car seat check I was told I should not use the little strap covers I had on because they were not part of the original car seat & had not been crash tested. I forget what she called it - post factory? Anyways, I would rather get something stained & faded & SAFE than take even a minor risk. I know she will appreciate your generosity.

Hi, For the carseat, definitely get a new cover from the manufacturer. If you purchase one elsewhere or make your own, insurance companies may not cover any injuries sustained in an accident because they will say that you have altered the carseat. Good luck! S.

I have the perfect thing! Go to coveredinlove.com. they have all these amazing car seat covers that are so cute. My aunt got me one and I use it everyday and my daughter looks so cozy in it. I think you can get the sale ones for under 40 for a set. But they are washable and beautiful (just don't wash them with velcro!!!!) I am sure she will love it!! Your so sweet for giving her your travel system, those things are crazy expensive.

Best of Luck-R.
