Need New Front Railing Installed & New Concrete Steps. Any Referrals?

Our front railing is loose and wobbly (and ugly) and we desperately need a new one installed. We like the look of the white vinyl railings (look like wood) but my husband is too busy to install. Our front concrete steps are also cracked in places and off level. We would like to replace them at the same time, but are unsure of the cost involved. Has anyone had this kind of work done? What is the cost level and did they do a good job? Thanks!
J.

I would check you local www.craigslist.com for someone who does this type of work. You can usually find someone resonably priced. My husband does decks and can replace railing and ect but no concrete repair. What city are you in?

I don't have a referral, but I will advise you to get an itemized written quote for the work to be done. We had a contractor help us fix the front of our house after a car ran into the front door, and unfortunately we were inexperienced in dealing with contractors. Because it was the middle of winter and we needed our home repaired quickly not to lose to much heat we were referred someone by a friend and didn't think to get a written estimate. I feel he overcharged on a lot of the work he did, but the one that really ticked me off was he charged $100 to "reconfigure" our front deck. (All he did was advise us to remove the railing on the front two steps and not bother replacing it since it wasn't required by code. He didn't even DO anything but TELL us that should be done then he tried to charge a hundred bucks for his "idea"!) Just so you don't get any surprises and are left with less than you thought that is my recommendation to you. Good luck!

***NOTE: added later! I DO have a referral that I totally forgot about! My former trainer at my old job her husband has his own concrete business. He gives free estimates, so at least you can get a quote: http://home.sprynet.com/~shotton/smwdesignscreativeconcre... Sorry I didn't remember this with my original post!***

Not sure what area you're in, but Barker Concrete redid our whole driveway and stairs. They are a family business, and reasonably priced. Here's their info:

Bennett's Rite-A-Way Construction ###-###-####) is in Shawnee and they do great work at a reasonable price. The cost level of replacing your steps depends upon size, whether they need footings and other aspects. Expect up to $2k and be happy when it comes in lower.
