Need Ideas for Thank You Party

My son is going to start kindergarten this fall. We are part of a very strong playgroup that has been run/organized by the same mom for almost four years. She does an awesome job and we really want to throw her a big thank you party this summer. She usually hosts several parties for the kids at her home each year (easter, xmas, valentine's and one or two others) where she goes all out with the theme - food matches the theme, games, crafts, goody bags, etc.

I need some ideas for coming up with a great thank you party for her. What kind of theme and what would go along with that theme? The kids will be there, so it needs to be kid friendly. There will probably be somewhere between 15-25 moms, each with a 4-5 year old and many with another sibling (some older, some younger) as well.

So what would you do? I need ideas. If you have pictures of anything you can send, let me know and I'll PM you my email address.

What can I do next?

I'd go with pot luck as Rebecca has mentioned.

How about a quilt? Each child can make a piece with permanent marker & then the mom's can stitch it together, it's really simple to do & the memories are wonderful to have for the receiver. You can also have pictures transferred onto the quilt pieces!

Whatever you decide to do I am POSITIVE she will appreciate your efforts! ;)

What about a "hero" themed party? It's a big thank you for her and it's something fun for the kids. I agree that a potluck would make things easier as far as food. Maybe a keepsake type collage of all the families in your playgroup at the events she has put together?

Okay I'm not very creative but what about like an adult tea party for the moms and an ice cream social for the kiddos? Could make it as fancy or as casual as you wanted.

With that many mom's I would do a pot luck type...
Last names with a-f main dish, g-l side dish, m-r desert s-z drinks
What ever letters it takes for there to be equal number of people bringing an item.

Then you bring the plates, silverware, cups and simple decorations with balloons and streamers and huge Thank you poster signed by all of the kids and parents.

Maybe do it at a park where the kids can play and run and plan about an hour of orginized games... musical chairs, relay races, balloon pop, etc

If you could do it as a suprise party for her that may be fun.
