Hello mommies,

I need ideas for my 3 years old boy birthday party in August. Indoors or outdoors. It will be just with me and his dad. He's not in day care/school so he doesn't have friends. His only best friend moved up north. He is a very very active boy. Any suggestion is very welcomed. Thank you in advance all...

What can I do next?

My kids don't have birthday parties with friends every year, although that seems to be the trend. When it's not the year to have a party we make their day special in other ways. Here are some ideas to make your son feel like it's an extra special day:

- Fill your sons room with balloons and/or streamers while he's sleeping.
- We always start our birthdays with a trip to the local donut shop. We put a candle in a donut hole and we. along with whoever is in the shop, sing happy birthday to our birthday person.
- Before the special day, I take my children to my local cake decorator and let them pick out any cake they want. My son's 3-year-old choice was Thomas the Train. My daughter, who just turned 4 a few days ago, chose Cinderella.
- Prepare your child's favorite meal for dinner.
- Plan an activity/outing for the 3 of you. You may try Soak City (they have a great water play area for young kids!!!), Legoland, Disneyland, Adventure City, the beach, bowling, miniature golf, Sea World, Kid Concepts, a movie etc. All of these are appropriate for a 3-year-old. The key is to make it special and something you would not normally do.

Regardless of what you choose to do, I can already tell your son will feel special on his birthday. Have fun!!!

The Kidspace Museum in Pasadena is a wonderful place for little kids. They have a water play area. You can bring a swimsuit and water shoes and watch him have a ball!!

Just buy a cake and have a present or two, maybe put a fun tablecloth on the table with crayons, and thats it, I am not sure but I did not celebrate every single bithday of my kids with a party, I did blow up a balloon or two place a b-day table cloth with plates in the kitchen for them. They loved it, and did not miss having a b=day party every yr.

If it is just you and Dad take him for a fun day at the park, play with him, afterwaards go for ice cream. You can also take him to Chuck e.cheese and play games with him, eat pizza, play more games have Chuck E. cheese staff sing happy Birthday to him. If it is just the three of you you can make a special day from any activity with him letting him know that it is his special day. You can even try asking him what he would like to do for his "special day" his Birthday.

Every birthday, I stay up the night before and decorate the house- streamers, balloons, and a big sign that reads "Happy Birthday (Son's Name)." My kids get a big kick out of waking up and playing in a festive house!

The Children's Museum at La Habra is a cool space! There is an outdoor park.

Whatever you decide to do, take plenty of pictures and create a mini scrapbook showcasing your day.

Enjoy,
F.

The LA Zoo is a nice day out and you could arrange for a place to have cake together.

At three you don't need any (or a lot of children) for a wonderful celebration of his birth. Even when my children were older, we would have a small party with friends (cupcakes around the cake) and then a family celebration with just my husband and me and his brothers with the cake.

Have balloons and streams hung over table, have candles. As you light the candles sing (or say)
"____has a birthday, we're so glad. Let us see how many he has had. As we could the candles (count as light) ...yes the candles say he is 3 years old." Then sing Happy Birthday (if you are a Christian consider a second verse ending with "may Jesus bless you" or singing "God's blessing on you" as the second verse...it makes a good family tradition).

Activities for that age would be bubbles, playing tag, singing games like here we go loop-t-loo, ring around the rosie, etc., catch or just wrestling with dad:) If he has certain toys he loves such as cars, then have a car race with him....make or use a track. My sons had the matchbox cars and loved to race them down tracks at that age.

Just your spending time and focusing the attention on him for the party will make it special.
Have a great birthday celebration.
H.
