My little guy is turning 3 in a couple of weeks and we are doing a firetruck theme. We'll do a firetruck cake and a pinata, but I'm looking for a few game ideas that go well with the theme. We'll have 8 kids as guests, ranging in ages from 3 to 12. Please provide your best tried-and-true recommendations. Thanks in advance for your creativity!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the great tips! I decided to keep it simple. South Metro Fire Rescue does not do home visits anymore, so instead, I asked a friend whose husband is a firefighter to come and do a talk with the kids. He was fantastic and put on his uniform and gear in front of them so they could learn the importance of each item. For the next activity, we painted huge flames a on a red shirt ($1 from Goodwill), put it on my husband and told the kids to put out the fire by pelting him with blue water ballons. I also printed out free firefighter themed coloring pages from the Internet which the kids colored while everyone got settled. The fire department provided us with safety activity books, junior firefighter sticker badges, and tattoos, which I also put out for the kids. We then did a firefighter pinata. For the cake, we did a landscape, with a burning building on one end and a toy firetruck coming to rescue it.

Find 2 fireman costumes (jacket and hat) and divide the kids into 2 teams for a relay race. Have one run down, put on the hat and jacket, run back take it off and give it to the next person in line, etc.

How about... pin the 'puppy' (dalmation) on the firetruck? I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find some Disney dalmation stickers that you could use, along with a large pic/poster of a firetruck. Just make sure you make the target area on the truck easily identifiable... at 3 yrs, the blindfold might be optional though... Whatever you decide, I am sure they will have fun with it, as long as you do! ;-)

If you request that the firetruck from your community make a guest appearance, they will (at least in our community) as long as they do not have an emergency call. I bought a Fireman Rescue Hero and let the fireman hand it, wrapped, to my son when the truck arrived. And all the guests got to get in the firetruck cab, and then later I took a photo of them all sitting on the back. ---- Also, I did a game where the boys had water guns that were "fire hoses." Too cute! Have fun!

Dress up spot.
Pin the tail on the dalmation
Hid something and provide maps and have them try to find it

I love some of the game ideas already posted. Going on what Bethany said, instead of a hose, you could put out a fire (pretend) with water balloons. First fire to knock over wins. Or make a target out of cardboard, paint a big flame on it, and do a bean-bag toss. Make your own bean bags from blue fabric (water) or get fire-truck fabric/bandanas from the store.

we did firefighter for my son's 4th. he's turning 9 soon, so I don't remember everything we did.
start with birthdaypartyideas.com. some of those mommies are crazy - but they have ideas you can scam and simplify.
ask the fire department to come. arvada's did. they did a little safety thing w/the kids as well as letting them look at the truck.
we put out the "fire" with water balloons. my son helped paint an old sheet to look like fire and we pinned it to the fence to throw balloons at.
we got appliance boxes from an appliance store. one was the fire house and one was the burning house. my son helped decorate them. there was endless fun with those and the riding toys. we taped red plastic cups upside down on every ride toy we had - they became instant fire trucks.
we played police car, police car, fire truck - duck, duck, goose.
for food, we did orange, yellow and red food. I remember yellow tortilla chips, carrot sticks, and watermelon. don't remember what else at this point.
just have fun w/it. if all you do is have the fire department show up, you'll have a very happy little boy. good luck!

You could set up some cardboard "fire" and water hoses. Whoever gets the "fire" out (making the cardboard fall over) first, gets a prize. :) Have fun!!! I'm planning my own 3rd b-day party too.

Try a "Pin the Ladder on the Firetruck", or put little paper fires up on stands and have the kids squirt them over with water sprayers.

Have fun!

You could make some firetrucks and have a race.
You can go online and googled "cardboard box fire engines." I got the plan from http://family.go.com/2008-halloween-costume-contest/costu.... With back to school time you could probably get some printer paper boxes. You could either spray paint the boxes or even use red wrapping paper instead of construction paper. For the lights on top you could use solo cups. . Since you would need to to make 8 I would take the easiest fastest approach and use aluminum foil for the grills and bumpers and painted small paper plates for the tires. You could also have a Firehouse Obstacle Course. Which if it is really hot out have a slip and slide as part of the obstacle. There are a couple of really good website to get idea for all different kinds of Birthday party themes. I have listed a few different ones.

We Have Fantasic Fire Truck here in AZ. We just booked it for our daughters birhtday in Dec so I searched in CO for you and found this site http://www.coloradofiretruckrental.4t.com/index.html Our rental was only $300 (the highest priced package) for unlimited amount of kids, and they do activities, prizes, adn each kid gets a hat, sticker, and coloring book. They let the kids play with a lot of the stuff on the truck and show up sirens blaring and everything, The birthday kid also gets to ride around the neighborhood on the fire truck :) I am not sure what the link I added offers but check your area.
