Hello, My daughter who is 34 has been diagnosed with Lupus. She is in pain everyday,(she is off of meds and only taking ibuprofen...)and has a 2 1/2 year old that keeps her hopping. I have been looking for a naturopath or homeopath but do not know too much about them. Has anyone heard of or is seeking help from one of them. I do not want her on meds due to all the side effects and they really do not treat the illness, just the symptom. Her little one is getting out of hand as well because she is in so much pain she can't seem to have enough energy to discipline. If anyone can help, I thank you. Lord bless.

What can I do next?

This site is for the North American Society of Homeopaths. It should be able to help you find a reputable homeopath in your area that is a good fit for your daughter's needs.

Good luck. I hope she is feeling less pain and chasing her little one soon.

Hi K.,
I responded to you before and you may have read it (it is below) but I just received an email today May 5th that I would love to share with you. It is called Wellness Programs for Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other Auto-Immune Disorders. It says alot of the same things I recommended but is more specific as far as supplementation. Again, I am not trying to sell you anything, I just wanted to offer the information. If you are interested in me forwarding this email to you, my email address is ____@____.com sorry to hear about your daughter. My name is J. and I have been a personal trainer and wellness coach for over 20 years. I do have some recommendations that you can think about but of course can never take as replacement for Dr. advice.
First, she should be eating a diet low in salt, fat and animal protein. This kind of diet keeps the immune system from being overly reactive and is easy on the kidneys. Use only olive oil. (flaxseed oil is good as well)
Secondly, Essential fatty acids are very important. Good sources are; again olive oil, flaxseed oil, primrose oil, salmon, sardines or you could take a fish oil supplement. I would recommend the product on this page for that. http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/prodNutOmegaGuard
Next, include in her diet brown risce, green leafy vegetables, nonacidic fresh fruits, oatmeal and whole grains. Have her eat fresh pineapple frequently.
Bromelain, an enzyme present in fresh pineapple is excellent for reducing inflammation.
Also, lots of fiber. A fiber supplement would work but of course eating high fiber goods which all the above are is best. A supplement might be http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20376 or http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20307

Try not to consume milk, dairy products or red meat. Avoid caffeine citrus fruit, paprika, salt, tobacco and any thing that contains surga. Night shade veggies such as eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, white potatoes contain a substance called solanine, which can contribute to inflammation and pain.

Try to get iron from food as opposed to supplements.
Get plenty of rest and regular exercise is very important.
Have her stay out of the sun by always wearing a hat and applying sunscreen but because of this she should definitely take a multi-vitamin with vitamin D.
Avoid flourescent light because it can aggravate symptoms.
Try to avoid being around anyone who is sick as she is more susceptible to viral infections. Also birth control pills have been known to cause a lupus flare up.
Mild cases of lupus respond well to supplements that build up the immune system. http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20960 and/or http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20241

Alfalfa capsules or tablets are good source of minerals needed for healing. http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20153 is a good product.

Earlier I recommended a multivitamin and I would recommend the following supplements besides the others listed.
This product includes omega 3's, b vitamins and antioxidants needed.
http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20246 or
http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20216.
Also, Calcium and magnesium is important for ph balance and protection against bone loss due to arthritis. http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/20681
Vitamin C is alo recomended.
Another possible product would be a product called Vivix that is high in resveratrol (and grape seed extract is also recommended)but I honestly have not studied the effects of resveratrol on lupus symptoms so you would have to investigate. http://www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy/product/81099

I am associated with Shaklee, the number 1 natural nutrition company because I truly believe in the product and it's philosophy. They do over 83,000quality control tests annually and follow Good Manufacturing Pracices with a patented processing method to ensure the absorption and proper utilzation of the nutrients in the body. They are also 100% guaranteed. You can go to my site www.shaklee.net/choosetobehealthy and shop for any of the above products. Please email me at ____@____.com if you have any other questions about exercise, fitness or nutrition. Good luck and I will keep your daughter in my prayers. God Bless you. J.

If your daughter is in ABQ, have her call Loiuse Swartswalter with Albuquerque Natural Health Center ###-###-####. A friend of mine was diagnosed with a number of auto immune disorders, Lupus was the most recent one. The meds were killing her through the side effects. She contacted the lady I mentioned and is curerntly down to a tiny dose for the Lupus and nothing else and she looks GREAT! Better than I've seen her in years. And she feels great too. They're aiming to have her off ALL meds soon. Louise was also diagnosed with Lupus years ago so she knows what she's talking about when it comes to treatment options.

I got diagnosed with Crohns (another immune disease disorder) and very much got some relief by following recommendations of a naturopath. You do need to be careful and alert. Do your own research and understand what they are recommending. Things like vitamins, accupuncture, massages, etc. very much help me manage my condition. I also take this Mona Vei juice which I very much acredit to helping me, along with mild excercise. Best of luck. If your interested in the juice I can send you my info as I have become a distributor since I believe in it so much now.

You might do some research into adaptogens. They're natural substances used for thousands of years that help the body return to its intended state.

I've written a couple of articles on them. Email me if you want more info. Or just Google adaptogens.

You might also consider a full-body toxin cleanse.

We see Dr. Kail at Arizona Advanced Medicine. He is an actual naturopathic doctor, meaning he went to med school, but instead of learning how to perform surgeries, he learned the "natural" side, then graduated with his ND degree. He talks fast and he is a bit different, but we ask lots of questions and find him to be very knowledgeable.

Here in Tucson a wonderful and very talented Osteopath is Theresa Cisler,
In Phoenix a wonderfully talented Osteopath is Stephan Davidson.
They are both very capable of helping your daughter.

As far as the discipline is concerned, have her check out my site, www.proactiveparenting.net. There she will find seminars that will instruct her in ways to discipline that will not tax her body or cause her to use too much of her energy.
Good luck.

Hello. I don't have any information regarding naturopaths. I think your daugther should do some reading about lupus. This is an autoimmune disease meaning that her own antibodies which normally fight infection/invaders are fighting her own body. The medications they use to treat this disease suppress the body's ability to attack itself. It is true that all these medications have potential side effects but rheumatologists (arthritis/autoimmune doctors) are experts in dealing with these. Ultimately this has to be your DAUGHTER's decision. She may be able to get off some of the medications after her flare has subsided OR she may need to be on them for the rest of her life. It's not an enviable position and I wish her luck.

Hi K.!
I don't know a thing about Lupus, but I do know a great naturopathic chiropractor in Mesa who has done wonders for my daughter when she was a baby. His name is Brett Brimhall with Brimhall Wellness Center in Mesa. His number is ###-###-####. I highly recommend him for just about any health issue. He is not cheap, as he doesn't deal with insurance companies, but the first visit is the biggie and then they get more manageable. And I think it's worth it.
Best of luck to your daughter!

I have only gone to alternative people my whole life. I go to an exceptional chiropractor in the Old Town Scottsdale area named Dr. Shawn Warwick. My relative had chronic illnesses and we used to drive out from CA to see him. As with any disease, there are multiple causes, so no one person is going to be her everything. Everyone will add some. There was an incredible natural MD (Dr. Cowden) who recently moved who could have helped for sure. He now works out of offices in TX and CA. Write to me if you want his info. I am an acupuncturist and that could help some, although to my limited knowledge of lupus, it could be caused by toxicity of some kind, I'm thinking heavy metal, but I'm not positive. Also, look into emotional work. Again, there are lots of emotional energetic modalities. Emotions often underly most illnesses. Yuen method, Holographic Repatterning are a couple. EFT is one I've heard of (emotional freedom technique). Just don't give up, b/c someone will help somewhere, and some won't help at all. Good Luck! and God Bless.

Dear K. F,
I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter, that's just no way to live, let alone raise a child. I beleive I can help you, your daughter and granddaughter. My family and I have been on and sharing a product called Mona Vie for years now. As a mother I looked for alternative ways to build my husband and I & our childrens immune systems and in another way other then the chewable vitamins. When I was introduced to Mona Vie my joints ached from sports all my life, having 5 kids within the last 9 years and extreme workouts. I was so relieved to throw away all our vitamins and glucosamine pills that did little if any help, since only 7% of all vitamins or pills get absorbed into your body. Mona Vie is a blend of 19 fruits with acai being the main fruit. It is filled with all 3 of your Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids and in only 2 oz a day you are drinking the equivalent to 13 servings of your daily fruit and veggies! I know there are alot of fruit drink blends out on the market right now and you wonder how Mona vie is any different. Well Mona Vie freeze dries the acai berry. They are the only one with this patent, that enables the berry to hold most of all it's nutrients. I can send you more brochures on the company, I could send you links to Dr's and how they truly believe Mona Vie is a gift from god. Mona vie is so great I have shared it with my frinds mother-in-law who also has lupus and gains so much comfort and relief from drinking Mona vie. I'll let you digest all this information, but you can contact me at anytime with questions, concerns etc.
Thanks and God Bless A. G

My family sees a homeopath for most every issue we have. When seeking a homeopath, look for someone with the CCH designation. These people are "classical" homeopaths and have advanced training in this area. While a Naturopathic doctor might also be helpful in the nutrition and suppliment area, they do not possess the advanced classical training for homeopathy (unless they went on to get CCH).

So, you may need to seek both kinds of practioners. The American College of Homeopathy is in Phoenix off of Camelback just east of I17. They have several practicing homeopaths (who may also teach there).
I hope your daughter feels well very soon.

Hi K.,

I'm really sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, with the diet and lifestyle America has adopted, autoimmune is becoming common at a young age. I have many holistic resources on my web site: http://healthyhabits.ws/resources-az.htm I also recently interviewed two doctors at the "Anti-Aging Institute" in East Mesa and was very impressed by them. I have not yet had an opportunity to add them to my list.

Best wishes to you and your daughter.
