Hi There!

I just had my children tested for food allergies through an Elisa Blood Test (done through Alletess labs).

They came back IgE allergic to Cows Milk and Eggs. (but they only tested 10 foods - so I wonder how much more??)

They also tested for IgG for 185 other foods and they basically had sensitivities to nearly EVERY food we eat? (including wheat and gluten)

I am at a total loss what to do with this information. They eat a very clean, nearly almost organic diet. The only thing their diet lacks is vegetables because they completely refuse them. But even that, I often puree greens and sneak it in their milk. They eat very little sugar or processed food.

So how could they be allergic to almost everything I feed them?? This does not make sense!

I will add that their stool is usually full of undigested food and does not "hold together" in the toilet. And I don't think that's a good sign of a healthy gut.

I do not like the nutritionist that ordered these labs, so I am seeking someone who can explain these results and exactly WHAT to do about them. Do I see an allergist or a nutritionist or does anyone have a fab. doctor you LOVE for this sort of thing??

Also how in the world does one do Gluten / Casein AND Egg free diet for kids who will not touch vegetables or meat??

Any advice would certainly be appreciated!!
Thanks!

Hi S P
I totally understand what you are going through. I have food allergies and eat a good diet. But I was eating eggs, dairy, and wheat every day.Over time, I developed an allergy. I realized this because I was so tired in the morning, had food hangovers, eczema on my hands when I ate allergic foods, headaches after eating, mood swings and infertility. It's so hard to go to your regular grocery store and find foods that are wheat free. I have yet to find a good doctor to help with this so you really must do it on your own. Chiropractors who specialize in nutrition are your best choice. I had my blood work done from a company called Immuno Labs. This is the website. www.betterhealthusa.com
They gave me choices of foods and recipes I could eat instead of wheat, dairy, eggs, yeast etc... There are tons of options. For example, you can eat duck eggs instead of chicken eggs. :-) Also, if you are in Austin I recommend a place to you called Food For Life. The website is
http://www.gfcfcuisine.com/
It was opened by a chiropractor and they have and make gluten free/casein free foods. They are in Cedar Park. She makes prepared meals you can take home that night or freeze. You can also eat right there in the store to try things. They are also open for breakfast.
This type of diet forces you to be creative and it's so frustrating trying to shop but you will get it down.
I also have a great book called The Allergy Self Help Cookbook. It has great easy recipes to help with all your allergy needs. I would recommend putting your children on probiotics daily. Not from yogurt though, just probiotics.
I went and saw a movie the other night called Food Inc. It truely opens your eyes about food in America. It's still showing. Here is the website. http://www.foodincmovie.com/

Good Luck and email me if you have any more questions.

Dr. Kayser

Super nice, professional, and never a long wait in the office. I think she also sees patients in Round Rock. Get on the waiting list and keep calling every week until you get in earlier. It's worth it!

I agree with the person who suggested Dr. Kayser. However, I am not sure she takes new patients or patients that haven't been referred from their primary doctor. We were able to get in for immunology reasons because our 16 month old ended up in the ICU at Dell Children's. The critical care doctor called her in. That being said, if there is a wait list definitely get on it.

I have read some about allergy testing recently. The results from the testing must be interepretted by an experienced doctor. The article in particular I am thinking about said that it's common for primary care doctors that aren't as well versed in allergy issues interpret the results to mean that the patient is allergic to just about everything.

I would definitely see a specialist (and not a nutritionist) for this issue.

I'm sorry that I don't have a pediatrician to recommend, but you can check out Mcgovern's Organics for gluten-free food, http://www.mcgovernsorganics.com/. Meg specializes in home deliveries and has a lot on her website about recipes, cooking classes and other links to info about celiac issues.

Also there's a new pizza shop in east Round Rock that just opened up. It specializes in having all its ingredients be organic or natural, but also offers gluten-free and non-dairy alternatives for the cheese and toppings. I don't know if it is egg free, but you can ask them. Their website is promisepizza.com.

What prompted you to have the children tested through a nutritionist? Were symptoms present that made you concerned? What does your pediatrician say?

My daughter is has excema. After a bad place emerged on her face our pediatrician referred us to a dermatologist and allergist.

I will be the third to recommend Dr. Kayser at Dell Childrens. She is FABULOUS - her staff is friendly and GREAT with children. Since we were referred by our Pediatrican we were able to get an appointment in 4 days. That may be your best route. A week later my daughter underwent skin testing which I thought was going to be horrible - it was not pleasant, but much better than I anticipated considering my daughter was 5 at the time. We discovered she is allergic to every grass & tree they tested her for as well as mold and dust. Amazingly she is not allergic to animals. We thought that was the source of our problems - NOT!

BEST WISHES!

My daughter has seasonal allergies which prompted me to seek out an allergist. Her name is Dr. Jackee Kayser ###-###-#### & she is locatd by the Dell Children's Hospital. She was tested for allergies & in additional to her seasonal allergies she showed allergic to eggs. She has a mild version of egg allergies. I would go to her & have a consultation to discuss your findings/concerns.

Good luck!
