Hi ladies,

I need help. I need some ideas on what to get my son's teachers for and end of the year gift. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get the directors something too as they have been so helpful to me and my son this year.

Thanks

I asked my friend who's a teacher this once and got an overwhelming, "Gift cards, gift cards, gift cards!" response. She said she doesn't care the amount, but that gift cards are what she will genuinely use (a big "no" to candles, candies, bath soaps).

At my kids school, the parents go in together and buy one big gift certificate together. That way the teacher has more possibilities of getting what she wants. We usually ask a family member or good friend of the teacher what type of present the teacher would like.

Hope this helps,

Have to agree with everyone on this as a former teacher...gift cards and amount is not important. Five or ten dollars is fine. Starbucks...Jumba Juice, Target, bookstore. And even more important is a card from you and your son saying specifically why you appreciate what they have done. I still have some of the cards parents gave me.

Another nice thing is supplies for the classroom. I often spent hundreds of dollars each year on supplies. If you could get her something for the next school year, I'm sure she would appreciate it.

No to candy, cookies, teacher mugs and desk stuff, frames (unless a picture drawn by your child is in it).....anything that will just collect dust. When I stopped teaching when I had my kids I ended up throwing away so many things students have given me...I had no place to put them and didn't want to bring them into my house.

Hi Emily,
I agree with the other moms - gift cards are a great idea. If you have a good mall nearby, most malls have gift cards, and then the teacher can choose if she wants to go out to dinner, watch a movie, buy clothes, or whatever else she wants to do. I am a mall manager and we have everything from Target, Best Buy, movie theaters, to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - and we have been INUNDATED with moms and dads buying teacher gifts of mall gift cards here. Just a thought! =)

I have many teacher friends---a gift card, or a something useful is appreciated. No clutter!
Sometimes I give my kids' teachers something for their class, like Sharpie markers in many different colors, or good strong magnets.
