Nap Time for 12 Month Old

My 12 month old has started to fight his afternoon nap. He usually naps around 9-10am and then again between 1:30 - 2:30pm. We put him to bed around 7 - 7:30pm. I am wondering if it is time to move him to one nap per day and if so what is the best way to transition him.

What can I do next?

Our son kind of "moved himself" to one nap a day. By 18 months, he was down to zero naps--only on occasion. This kid does not need a lot of sleep! Such adventures! But good luck to you!!!

The good news is, your baby might actually sleep for a longer period of time with only one nap. I suggest keeping him up and watching for sleepy signs and then putting him down for a nap. The next day put him down 15-20 minutes earlier than the day before, just play with it until you figure out what time is good for both of you. I like to serve lunch before nap time, which means lunch is at 11:30 in my house, but I've served lunch as early at 10:45. My 2 year-old will nap for 3 hours and it is a wonderful time to get things done around the house (or goof off on the internet). Good luck!

My daughter is now 16 months old and at around 12 months starting fighting that afternoon nap also. During the week when she is with the nanny, the nanny does not seem to have any trouble putting her down for her 2 naps and she still wraps her! However, on the weekends, I pretty much just let her take her morning nap (she easily goes down for it) and likes to fall asleep next to me in the recliner, and skip the afternoon nap.

Our son moved to one nap a day around 9 months and it was a nice long nap (3-4 hours). So it does sound to me like switching to one nap would be right on for her. You might try putting her down around 11 based on her current nap times and see how that goes.

I would like to know the same. I am starting to enter the same phase except my little girl is still only 9 months. I think it's too early and will continue to try and have her nap or rest as long as I can.
